94' Fuel Guage issue

I changed my fuel pump for the second time now and afterwards the guage read empty or mostly empty. Once in a while it may read at 1/4 to 1/3 tank when its actually full. Once it read full after a fill up but in a couple days it was back to empty.
One thing to note is this last time while putting the pump back in the tank I bumped the pump on the edge of the hole it goes into popping off the float. I found out how the float attached and snapped it into place and moved the float up and down a few times to make sure it was secure and it moved like a float should.
Anyone have a simular problem or know what may remedy my goofy gas guage issue?

It is probably the fuel level sending unit, in the tank.

When you bumped the pump the sending unit was probably damaged. You can replace the pump or pull the pump and replace the sending unit on the old pump or you can do what us Blazer owners have been doing is fill up with gas hit the tripometer keep up with your mileage until your old pump goes out.
