First Post here---Toyota Corolla WRC

I just finished this up within the last couple of days and thought I would share it with the fine folks here on the forum. I also included a couple of the WIP shots I took of it as I went. Hasegawa kit built strictly OOB. Not that it needed anything as it included Photo Etch hardware for the screens and belt hardware. Also included was some vinyl material for the belts themselves and thicker material for use on the skid plates and mud flaps (I left my mud flaps off) No problems at all with the kit, but the decals were a little reluctant to lay down. Solvaset solved the problem though. I wanted to model this as an "In race car" hence the dirt and mud on the lower body, and the paint chipping along the valance on the front. Thank you. Yes the weathering was done with an airbrush. An Iwata HPC gravity feed. Very nice brush, I like it a lot. Thanks again. "Q":)

Yet another superb Corolla! The wash on the underside and masked windscreen wiper pattern are particularly effective.

Personally, the weathering looks a bit too "even" to me, not flowing with the aerodynamics of a car on stage. But that is an argument that has been had on this forum many times before. It takes a lot of bravery to dirty up a cleanly fnished model - so I salute your commitment! :)

Sorry for not responding earlier...I was getting these "heads up...somebody responded to your post" messages at first, and then they stopped, so I figured nobody was posting to the thread...anyway... The weathering...

Once the kit was built, painted, and decaled I used a some acrylic modeling paste to build up the mud areas behind the wheels. It took about three applications to get it looking right to my eye. Once that was dry, it was simply a matter of choosing a few differing shades of brown/tan and spraying them thru the airbrush where I thought they should go. First though, I made some templates for the wiper areas with a compass and an good sharp blade. Applied these to the windshield and then did all of the airbrushing. I kept the darker colors down low and the tans up higher on the car. I seriously doubt I will do this again, as I am kind of bummed:frown: that I can't see all of the cool belt work in the interior anymore. I think the cars look better nice and clean, I know they don't end up that way after a rally, but they sure start off that way:wink: Thanks again for the kudos on the car.
