Electrical Problems!!!

I recently wired a 220 watt cd player in my 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme SL. When I play the cd player, it's fine and everything. But when I turn the dash lights on (and I know it's the dash lights, because I tricked the lights, to where the head lights come on but the dash doesn't) the cd player will show that the music is playing, but there is no sound coming from the speakers. Does anybody know what is wrong?

Two things that might help in figuring it out:
1) When I turn the cd player on/off there are little popping noises that come out of the speakers.
2) I wired it through the wires that were used for the stock radio, just connected the wires.

If this system is of higher wattage then the last one, then maybe you need to wire a direct line to the battery with an inline fuse...If it has the same power rating, then I don't know:dunno:

But I was just thinking...could there be a power issue inside the cd player with switching the display power output with that of the speakers...:cwm27: Oh forget it...Im not even shure if it makes sence to me...

if there was a power issue at all within the cd player, I'll just go back and get another one lol, simple as that. But thank you, I had a hunch I would have to wire it directly to the battery.

Are you sure you wired it correctly? A GM stock radio has 4 power leads.
Orange- clock, station memory, hot at all times.
yellow, ignition controlled, only has power when ign is in run or acc position.
gray- panel lights (dims display slightly when headlights are turned on)
brown- dimmer signal (dims lights as instrument panel lights are dimmed)

you probably connected the ground for your new radio to the dash light power wire from the car, unhook the ground wire from the radio. ,run it ti a solid metal ground & tape up the wire from the dash lights that you unhooked it from & leave it alone. if you need to, replace your dash light fuse if its blown.
