Hello, I am installing some mud flaps and was wondering about something. On the instructions it says to use some Duponts Prep-Sol Brand Solvent Cleaner or 3M Brand Adhesive Cleaner and dry to degrease the surface inorder to prepare for adhering something to it. I cannot find any of that stuff. Can something like mineral spirits or tsp be used in its place? Is there something special about that stuff that I am not getting. Thanks

Brake cleaner might work, but mineral spirits is too oily

are you sure that rubbing alcohol will not damage the paint though. Actually I do screw them on there is also a stick type thing that you put on the car where the mud flap touches the paint. It is to prevent the paint from being rubbed off. It is a husky mud flap. THanks

Any mud flaps that I have put on, I just used the self tapping screws to install them. I have never had a problem with paint being "rubbed off" if they were secure and not flapping against the fender.

They supplied it with the mud flap so it wasn't my idea. I have installed others but these are different in the sense that they actually overhand on the paint. But anyways are you sure that rubbing alcohol will not hurt the paint. Thanks for all the help. I do appreciate it.

There are no guarntees in life my friend ,however with that said I would use it on my truck and not worry about it. If you don`t like that then use vinegar and water can be used as a cleaner as well. Sounds like you just want to prep the surface so things will stick. I have used rubbing alcohol to remove the glue form decals on my sled, fiberglass hood .It DID NOT DAMAGE the paint on it in anyway, therefore I `m not shy to use it . Don`t know if this will make you feel better about using it but I just went out and cleaned some duct tape residue off my truck, I`ve only had truck a monthand not shy to use rubbing alco on it . Scouts Honor ....LOL
