So I was driving down the highway the other night (95 Civic DX) when my engine started knocking. I went about 2 miles and then BANG! I pulled off to the side of the road, popped the hood and went searching. No fluid pouring out...no smoke...nothing out of the ordinary....except one of my spark plug wires was now laying on top of the valve cover, disconnected from the plug.
I had my buddy start the car while I was watching and, sure enough, that spark plug came up out of the hole and danced around the top of the valve cover. I pulled the plug out and examined it, expecting to see aluminum shavings in the threads - nothing. The plug was as clean as a brand new one. The only thing I can figure is that the plug somehow un-screwed itself.
I had the car towed to a buddy's house where I put a new set of plugs and wires on. Since then I've had no problems. Cheapest blown engine evar!
Anyone ever heard of this happening?

Been there, seen that.
I had a car towed to the shop one day. The customer said a "mechanic" told her she needed a new engine.
A spark plug was not tightened and eventually unscrewed its self.
