Hi guys! Finished this one off today. For you that have not followed the progress thread it is right here ---> http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=520461
This is my dream build and I've been planning for it for about three years taking notes about ideas in my modelling note book. It became four totally covered pages. Next thing is to start transforming those ideas into a real build. Many things has been altered but it's almost the same as I wanted it to be from the beginning.
Kit is of coarse Tamiyas' Yamaha R1 in 1/12 scale. That kit comes with a 4-1 side mounted exhaust system but I wanted seat pipes. I took the mufflers off a Ducati 916 and scratch built the pipes to become 4-2.
To go with the seat pipes I wanted a mono swing arm. I reworked the existing R1 swing to what you see on these pictures.
Front fender and calipers are from a Tamiya GP500 ´01 kit. Gives more edge to it. All three discs are remodeled to become wave discs.
Paint is Tamiya Metallic Red and Metallic Grey as far as the cowlings. Besides that most of the parts are one of Alclad II pale gold, Alclad II Jet Exhaust or Tamiya Flat black.
Most of the parts in this kit has been altered in some way. Either painted differently from the instructions, rebuilt or totally scratch built.
The finished model includes: 63 Model Factory Hiro aluminum rivets, 22 Scale Race Cars washers and four types of SMS Carbon fibre decal.
Hope you all enjoy it and I'll try to answer any questions you might have. Pictures are a bit bright and out of focus. Will try and take new ones during the weekend.

Glad to see it pulled off.
It looks very nice, even if I'm pretty sure you have some parts you're not totally satisfied with!? I know I always have them in my builds.
Never the less, I'm impressed by this R1.

As you say Niclas, they are always present. More or less. Due to the serious tuning of this build I most say I'm mostly satisfied but there are a few larger no-no:s that I'm really don't like.

Bravo! Excellent!
Congratulations Joel, this is the best R1 i have ever seen and all your ideas are great .This type of preparation encourages me to do the same thing with other motorcycles.
I'm waiting to see your next soon :grinyes:

Well, I'M impressed! I love this build, in just about every way. From the reworked exhaust to the two-tone paint scheme, and the blacked out frame. Wonderful!

Looks great! I'm glad you finished it! I love all the mods on it. You see a lot of tuned cars, but not many tuned bikes. In fact, this is the first one I've seen complete! I love it, a lot! The colors suit it well, and I like how you did the gold throughout. The mods are awesome, the single arm is so freakin' cool, as are the seat pipes, and I love the slider begs. Great!
Also, in the progress thread, you're looking for a stand? I have the clear tire stand part from a 'Busa kit that I'm not building, so if you want it shoot me a PM. The three bikes I've got coming down the pipe are the Bobber I'm building right now, then a tuned Honda Superblackbird (an idea I had but had not impetus to build until yours came along) and this:

That will be ONE HELL of a challange Willimo! But if you get even close it will be so great. I'll await it!

So, what's next?
I think I'll go with a double build, the ´05 Dánting Pramac Desmosedici GP4 together with the test version of the same bike.

Thanks Rob, makes me really glad to hear as you are the who's setting the standards for my own goals. I agree with you on the chainguard as it's a part of the overall look.
Get back from vacation so that we can see some Katana pictures :p

Great!
Having followed the WIP thread there's little else I can say except I wouldn't mind having that bike on my display cabinet ;)
You see a lot of tuned cars, but not many tuned bikes. In fact, this is the first one I've seen complete!
True. Coincidentally I have one coming in 5 minutes or so :)
I had that going for about a year and Joel's work contributed to get back to it.
Cheers,
Tiago

that's pimp! love the bike mods you've made. You also took the time to put on frame sliders too!

Thanks all of you for your comments and your input throughout the build process.
Frame sliders are a nice touch in my opinion but they need some touching up...
