Hey All, I new to this forum. I have had My Taurus for 6 years got it new at the end of 2000. I having a small problem but I thinkk I have it narowed down to the PCV Valve and ir the hose. I am getting a Code of P0171 and P0174. If after replacing them and the error comes back then I need to clean the MAS.

But I am looking for the Factory service Manual that I can download.

Thanks Semore

P0171 System too Lean (Bank 1)
P0174 System too Lean (Bank 2)
Cleaning the MAF would be a good place to start. Don't touch the wires or use a Qtip to clean them, just spray the contact cleaner on and you're good to go. I got the cleaner at Auto Zone, CRC Lectra-Motive Electric Parts Cleaner, Non-Flammable, Degreases Fast, Removes Oil & Dirt, Non-Staining, Leaves No Residue, Non-Conductive. Any electric parts cleaner should work.

New PVC valve and new grommet a little less than five bucks. Make sure you replace the grommet it sits in and check the hose that attaches to the PCV. Shorod taught me the PCV is a normal maintenance item so going to replace mine every 20K miles. Double check every hose and connection AFTER the MAF becasue you could have a vacuum leak.

If the CEL comes back on I'd replace the O2 sensors. Bank 1 is near the firewall, bank 2 near the radiator. Sensor 1 is before the cat and sensor two after the cat, catylitic converter. O2 sensor for my 03 was $42. at Advance Auto. They rent a kit consisting of two crows feet and a socket, it rents for about $15. so rent it and change the sensors yourself and save a wad of dough. You'll need a 6" extension and half inch breaker bar or ratchet. Take the kit back, get your rent money refund and rock on. It took me about 15 minutes to change bank1 sensor1 on my 03 and Ford wanted $129. labor to do it.

We hashed all this out in this thread so read it and get some good info: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=608412

down load owners manual: Way2old and shorod have the link for that and soon as they see your post they'll give it to you.

I'm sorry, for some reason I got owners MANUAL in my head.

You can find it over here. (http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/index.php?act=portal)

It is pinned at the top of the maintenance forums I believe

I have not seen any service manuals that can be downloaded. About the best I can suggest is to go to one of the sites that sell things and search for Ford repair DVD's. Owners manuals can be had almost anywhere, but service manuals are really hard to find. We have access to Ford's site but it costs quite a lot to access the information.

Hey Guys, Thanks for the helpful info. I will be doing this work tonight after I pickup my boy from school.

I did look on the link for the service manual and was unable to locate it.

I post my results here after I complet the PCV replacment and the vacum line to the PCV. Then see if the code comes back.

Im not thinking to O2 sensors are failing. They where replaced last year. But If I cant find and vacum leaks I will have to assume that this is the issue.

Just wanted to give a update:

I started tonight for a little bit I got the aircleaner/MAS and the throtel body off to get to PCV and then ran into the 1st issue. The outlet tube after the filter that was torn almost in half. Went to the Autozone to find out that this a Factory part only. Then the next thing was the vacum line coming off the PCV requiers a a hose clamp pilers and I dont have that so I will need to hit sears and Ford Dealer ship. I hoping that they will give me a discount being that me and my wife are both Ford Employes.

Thanks

PCV: Mine hadn't been replaced in 43K miles and the grommet hole got bigger and must have been letting air in. The torn air hose isn't good because it lets dirty air in the engine. Sounds like you're getting the problem isolated and you might check some salvage yards and see if you can find a hose in decent condition. Meantime, don't forget our old friend, Mr. Duct Tape. :ylsuper:
