Hi again all, have a new problem with my lumina.
Went to the grocery store.. shut the car off and when i got back to my car i went to start it and it started for about 1 second then stalled out.. will not restart.. i had a similar problem about 5 months ago.
Only thing different was the car would start and keep running but would idle roughly.. changed the cam sensor.. car has ran good till up to now.. i suspect maybe out of gas.. the gauge doesnt work right.. anyway i put 2 gallons in the tank and it still wont start.. i have heard that if you run a fuel inj engine out of gas ther is something you have to do to it to get it started after you put gas in. anyone know.. thinking maybe ill try that before i get the codes read. :banghead:
Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks,
Lamodar

Nothing you have to do, it's self priming...sometimes the fuel pump will crap out after running out of gas, because the fuel cools it, and itll overheat and die running dry if it was marginal to begin with.
I'd wonder about the crank sensor, ignition module, etc.
Hit it with some starting fluid, if it's just a fuel issue, it'll run on that. The "Security" light isn't on constant, is it?

Thanks jeffcoslacker for the quick reply,
Not too sure what it could be as far as the crank sensor ect.
Im thinking maybe the fuel pump.. but as i stated, i was going to wait and see if there was something i had to do after putting gas in it.
How much should i crank on the starter before it should prime itself?
I havent cranked the starter much (scared to kill the starter or battery).
I will get some starter fluid and try that if it doesnt start when i try it again.
Its in the parking lot at the store..(about 4 miles from me :frown: ) so in the picture where i circled is where i spray the starting fluid?
Not too sure is why im asking.. thanks again

Just above where you circled, you'll see a hard plastic line that pops into the air intake tube and goes back toward the EGR valve. That is the easiest access point to spray in the starting fluid. Go easy with the starting fluid, just a couple of quick bursts. To much can cause new issues.

Ok thanks richtazz,
I will give it a try this morning.. A friend of mine loaned me his code checker so i will be checking that also. I will report back.
Thanks again:cheers:

well, tried the code reader and got an error communicating with the car.. tried turning on ignition before hooking reader to computer and tried the opposite.
This code reader is for OBD II. Does anyone know if a 96 3.1 lumina is OBD II or not? and if it is could it be that the cars computer is faulty?
Im at a loss, any help ?:banghead:

Ok.. found out that the BATT ECM fuse was blown.. all is well now.. except for this.. now that i changed that fuse i can read the codes.. only code that comes up is P1641 Malfunction Indicator Lamp. I'm assuming that that means the service engine soon or check engine lamp is faulty.. maybe a burned out bulb? i guess its really no big deal but i am just wondering, anyone have a clue? Thanks guys for all the help

That error code indicates a problem with the control circuit for the lamp, perhaps not the lamp itself. Does the lamp illuminuiate when the ignition is on but with the engine off?
