Hello all back again... This question is not for my Blazer but my trust in all of you brought me here. I have a 1992 Nissan Sentra Front Wheel Drive automatic.... Yesterday I noticed my brakes were a little soft so I decided to hold the brake peddle down while hitting the gas... Well the brakes grabbed fine.... I wish they didn't... Anyway all of a sudden there was a bang sound like it jumped out of gear and then the engine reved... I went through all the gears and nothing... Then I put it in park and I got a grinding noise... All though I now have it in park the car still acts like it's in Neutral... So I tried all the gears again and nothing... But I can hear the transmission going into gear... I again put it in park and and grinding sound slowing to a stop again but acting as if the car is in neutral... It seems the trans is working but not engaging if you know what I mean...
Does anyone have any idea what's up with this before I just junk the car...

LOL, try to check one thiong, a nd another goes...
Take a look at the drive axles at the front. Raise the front of the car, in gear, engine off of course, turn one wheel and watch the other, it should turn in the oppisite direction. It sounds like a drive shaft, either external shafts, of internal (in the tranny shaft). Good Luck

Well what I did yesterday was raise one side of the car (passanger) Transmission more to the drivers side front of this car.. With the car in Park I was able to spin the passanger side drive shaft easily with my hand.. I didn't have time to raise the driver side and check that one but will asume since the car acts like it's in neutral when in park that side will do the same... Now when you say internal drive shaft I am guessing I will probably have to remove the motor and tranny to get at that considering it is front wheel drive?

I don't know how the shift linkages are set up in that vehicle, but maybe you should also check the motor/tranny mounts as a broken one might affect them. You might get lucky and have it be something that simple (but it sure doesn't sound like it).

You have to raise both of them at the same time, but since you said one is turning freely, take a real close look at that shaft. Make sure it is turning and that a CV joint didn't break. Watch the whole shaft turn, right up into the tranny. If both shafts are turning right up into the transmission, then you have an internal tranny problem, in which case the tranny would have to be removed and torn apart.

Did you do this to check the brakes, or to check after the transmission problem occured. If you did this to check the brakes....your asking for trouble, you bind the transmission, and things (like sprags) will tend to explode inside the tranny.

I did this to check the transmission.... The axle turned freely.... I only turned the axle buy hand with engine off and shift in park position... I did put my foot on the bake and on the gas peddle to check the dragg with the brake system But I didn't get on it..... and then wham nothing...
