So...what am I supposed to do with my Arii and Esci's BB kits?
With Tamiya's FXX and Hasegawa's reissues, looks like we're gonna see tons of new Ferrari build-ups next year.
Plus, there'll be Lexus IS350 w/PE and MX-5 w/PE.

Holy moly! Boxers! Glad I didn't finish my conversion.
So what are Fujimi doing, making casting bucks, selling resin kits...then later making plastic kits of the same car from those bucks?
Either way, more great news!

Wasn't it S27 that had a boxer? Fujimi made 308GTB and Dino speciale. If you are right I sure hope they get their 308GT4 ready and make a plastic version from it also!
Anyway, great news!

So are the 365/512 kits new tooling or reissues?
hirofkd
09-26-2006, 12:31 PM
Those are brand-new. Fujimi's 599 kit is expected to be like their 550/575 and F430 kits, well-proportioned curbside, so it won't mean much outside Japan, where the detailed Revell Germany counterparts will be cheaper. (On the other hand, Revell AG kits are priced around 4000-5000 yen in Japan.) As for the BB, the question is will Fujimi accurately represent the differences between the 365, 512 and 512i? Also, will they make the 2nd gen Boxster, which shares many parts with the Cayman?

Hi,
Fujimi is re-releasing(I think) the Ferrari 512BB and BBi model which which makes me wonder what exactly is different about the two real-life cars and if anyone has the old release, are these models any good, as far as quality of kit and fit etc.?
Thanks in advance,
Al

There was a thread about that a while ago.
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=621250
As far as I know, Fujimi's BB kits are new tools.
If you're interested in old kits, the quality is exactly what you would expect from that time period, and it's not worth much, or I should say, I hope Fujimi will give us good BB kits so that old kits can be forgotten, except for maybe the engine details, because some of the old kits have the boxer engine (Revell 365 and Marui 512), while Fujimi kits are believed to be curbside. But rumor has it that they may include the engine by digitally shrinking their 1/16 scale kit.
Plastic Model show in Tokyo is less than a week away, so we'll find out more pretty soon.
P.S. Fujimi did announce that the upcoming Cayman kit will not include the engine, but they haven't mentioned anything about the engine of their BB kits. Interesting, huh?

Well, as far as i know there has not been a 1/24 Fujimi 512BB or BBi so they can't be re-releases.
And for the 1:1 cars, and their differences:
-BB has carbs, BBi has fuel injection
-Supplementary driving lights are behind the grille on BB, exposed on BBi
-Extra reflectors on BBi Bumper corners
-Different mirrors

There is... fujimi released these kits quite awhile back.. so if they release again it would be a re-release.

There has not been a recent plastic model kit from 512BB from Fujimi or any other manufacturer. There was a 1/24 Resin kit by S27 some time ago though. You must be confused by this:

No im not confused ... please read the words on the box art.. it says 1/24 not 1/16 and this aint a photoshop photo.
And personally i dont like the way u phrase your words.. ur implying that IM confused .. im not. What im saying is that this box art is from the older ferrari lines produce by fujimi. Well the picture does say its a 1/24. And im not implying that was a 512BB already release last time.. When i saw this box art ... i had a feeling it was.

Yes, but the picture you posted is from the new release at HLJ site, and as i said there has not been a recent release of 1/24 512BB. I know it is not a photoshop by You. There might be some ancient 1/24 Fujimi 512BB that i don't know of, but at least for the past 10-15 years there has not been any, and i think i know Ferrari kits quite well. Well actually for the last 7 years i haven't built model from anything else.
Also if you watch the Italianhorses link i posted, there is no mention of any Fujimi release of 512BB. I know that this list is not complete, but all recent plastic kits are there.
Edit:
I had no intentions to hurt your feelings. My native language is not english so my messages may cut few corners here and there. I apologise that.

P.S. Fujimi did announce that the upcoming Cayman kit will not include the engine, but they haven't mentioned anything about the engine of their BB kits. Interesting, huh?
Tooling up an engine for a Cayman or Boxster (surely Fujimi must be thinking about doing a Boxster from the same tooling) would be rather pointless, as the engines are completely hidden from view in the 1:1 car. The Cayman/Boxster is the perfect curbside subject. The only way a Cayman/Boxster owner is going to see their engine is if they physically remove it from the car.
As for the younger generation on the board who are fighting over who has done what, I've been buying/building model cars from all around the world for the past 30 years and Fujimi has never offered a 1/24 scale BB of their own previously. If they did I would have owned and built it already. They took the modern box art layout from their 1/16 BB kit and used it to promote the upcoming 1/24 kit.

It clearly says brand new tooling, so it will not be reissue for sure. The layout is identical to their 1/16 scale BB kit. Although using today's cad/cam technology, it's possible to scale down a model with near 100% accuracy, they still have to tweak a bit to match the strength of smaller parts in 1/24 scale, so I think those images are just placeholders. Assuming that the new kit will be "similar" to their 1/16 scale counterpart, I have high hopes for seeing brand new detailed BB kits in 1/24 scale.

As for the younger generation on the board who are fighting over who has done what,
I think i hardly qualify for "the younger generation", nor did i intentionally start a fight over who did what. I just usually take some things too seriously, specially when i'm at least 99,99% sure what i'm talking about. But i must admit that i'm a bit ashamed for my behaviour today. Specially after noticing that my "opponent" is about half of my age.

As i said in one of my previous messages, the "boxart" also clearly says "200 parts" ,which by the way is about the same as in Fujimis EM series of Ferraris. This probablly gives us even more hope of full detail series of BB Ferraris.

The Cayman is a beautiful car. My boss recently took me for a spin in his 1:1 and it is a fantastic car!!
I am glad Fujimi are producing one in 1/24th. It will be even better with an engine. Fujimi are starting to kick Tamiya's ass with their new releases. My new Mazda Speed Roadster MX-5 arrived this morning and it had a FULL engine, not just the top halves that they used to do. GO FUJIMI! (Sorry for going a little off topic)

The Cayman prototype model looks great. Although the wheel look too accurate, lowering the car by 1.5 mm or so will probably improve the look. I think Fujimi should release the tequipment version with the 19 Carrera Classic wheels.
The announcement of a new R34 GT-R kit was a surprise, but what's even more interesting about the kit is that it's a brand-new tool. I thought it would be just another variation of the old generic Nissan chassis, but it's good to see another interpretation of this great car. The seat bottoms are molded with the floor, but I guess it won't matter once the model is built.
The BBs...the prototype looks alright, and it's detailed enough for the price. (almost the same level of details as Tamiya's SLR, but 2600 yen vs 4000 yen, Fujimi is the winner). From the parts layout, it looks like the wheels don't seem to belong to any common trees, which suggests that 365 and 512 won't have the same wheel size. The picture of the 365GT4 isn't accurate, and I hope we don't have to end up cutting the front lip spoiler.
The prototype of the 559 kit looks pretty good, and I'll be getting one in addition to the Revell counterpart.
The October surprise from Fujimi turned out to be the new Lexus LS. Now we'll have all 3 generations of Toyota flagship in 1/24 scale.
And finally Prince Skyline (S54B) in both plastic and resin.
For the FXX, there's a specific thread on the subject.

Any more info on this Gallardo? It's was among the Fujimi resin items so I assume it's also resin which is beyond my budget-too bad.

It's a resin 1/43 scale model. Totally not anything I'd like to see. I'd like to see that variation w/their 1/24 Gallardo tooling.

One of my best friends has a Cayman (white, blue interior, 19" wheels, all the go-fast and handling upgrades except for carbon brakes), it's a blast to drive-it's the best sports car I have ever driven. The engine in a Boxster or Cayman is completely, totally hidden from view in the car, and the only way to see it is if it is removed from the car from below. No reason to make it "better" with an engine if you're never going to see it. Curbside is perfect for a Boxster or Cayman.

heres an idea for the ferrari 599 from channel 4(uk) website:-
its suspension is raised 25mm, and has rally tires to cope with the terrain in south america and maybe somebody could make the decals for it

I hope Fujimi plans on issuing their Challenge Stradale wheels as separate items. The pentagram wheels just don't look right to me.
I'm very excited about the 599 and Cayman. I've already got my Cayman colors and wheels picked out.

I imagine the 599 will be available in an "optional parts version" after the intial model comes out; the 20" Challenge wheels and the sports seats would be a natural. I also find the pentagram wheels disturbing. Not because of any superstitions, just that they're fugly! Same can be said for the optional rims they foist on 612 buyers, they're hideous. FWD-offset wheels on Ferraris causes problems like this.
I'll have to build at least a couple Caymans. One will have to have a tunneled rear window like the 904. I also hope Fujimi does more wheels, the 15-spoke Carrera 19's look killer on the Cayman. The Lambo Sportec wheels will do in a pinch.
BTW, HLJ has decent pics of the Cayman, 599, and 512BB on their website that are bigger than the ones we've seen here. You get a better feel for the models. The 512 looks like it's simplified like the modern Ferraris/Lambos. I don't believe the 200 parts they claim, and there's a picture of the parts layout of the 365 BB that isn't just a copy of the 1/16 version; no separate doors, and looks more like a 150 part kit. If it's got the level of detail of say the new MX5 kit, they're doing fine.
