After months of looking for something other than my 97 GMC that I bought and didn't like, I now have an 03 Ford F-150 Super Crew. 38K miles fully loaded Lariat lifted w/ 37/12.5/17's. 75K warranty on ANYTHING also.
I know its not a Chevy, but I like it. Probably a stupid decision b/c of gas prices. Whatcha think?

Nice! I'm not really a Ford hater like some, just prefer Chevy. Wasn't your '97 red with grey trim at the bottom??? :iceslolan Anyway, I like it. As long as you do, though, who cares! Right? :p
Just out of curiosity, what kind of deal did you get on it? My in-laws have a Ford that is almost identical, except that it is a 2002. It's not raised quite as much, but same color, trim, etc. (similar miles and everything). They are trying to sell theirs, but it's been over a year! I keep telling them they are asking too much compared to buying from a dealer. They are basically taking Blue Book value, and adding the FULL RETAIL price of all the aftermarket crap they added to it.

Yep, my 97 was red and grey. I didnt really like it when I bought it, I was just making do until I could find something I really really wanted.
I paid 19,900 for it and added a warranty and GAP insurance for a total of....22939.
It seems like its been re-geared, but I think I want a little smaller tire on it. The torsion bars are cranked like crazy so I'm going to let them down a bit.

Your Ford looks awesome...I have a love/hate affare with my 2000 Silverado...mostly because of the entire braking system. I really like Chevy's and my next truck will have four doors like yours. When I test drove a Ford truck in the past there was alot of bouncing going on front to back. Probably because a Ford frame is built really strong and a Chevy is built on a car frame, or so I'm told. Nothing wrong with that but I need a 3/4 ton 2500 series next time and I'm going to be looking at the F250's also.

Nice Truck Jay. Hope it's roomy inside. One thing I found was that the Chevy's appear and feel bigger inside than the Ford's. You certainly won't have any problems looking around way up there.

Thats half the fun!!!!!
I really wanted a GM, but I got a good deal, or so I think, on this one. Towing and everything except general service items like brake pads, rotors, etc are covered by the warranty.
I'll probably regret ever buying it, but ya gotta learn from your mistakes.
Before I bought the 9 Z, I had 3 previous Fords and they were excellent trucks. I know the mileage will suck for this thing and I'll probably have to sell it to keep from going into bankruptcy in a few months!! I've already had a few offers on it.

Cool man. No hatin' on you from me. You found something you liked and it fits your budget. I do think those tires look bad with stock wheels though.
Did you make sure they did the recall that was the culprit of all those fires?

Honestly? No I wouldn't have. I would have wanted it really bad and that's it. I'd rather pay monthly for a dependable ride though than have to sink alot of money into an older ride just to keep it on the road. It also makes driving alot more fun if you have a vehicle you enjoy. I looked like a 75 year old man in my GMC. I would have rather had a Chevrolet, or GMC, but I couldn't find any in my budget that didn't have excessive mileage.
TexasF355F1Heck no. Is there anywhere on the net to check? I can still go in and haave them look. The service manager is a super hottie!

Gotta keep it clean to show off for at least a week or so...then we'll see what it can do off road. I'm scared the tires are going to rub the fenders in the back. I think it seriously needs 36's, maybe even 35's. That must be why its cranked in the front right now.

14-ish is about right for an ext/crew cab, despite claims to the contrary. Good thing you have a warranty. If the truck has any problems at all, don't hesitate to exercise it, unless you have a deductible. The common weak points on those are CoP units, spark plugs blowing out the heads (ripping the threads out), water incursion into the PCM bulkhead connector causing all kinds of rogue problems, and a few pesky problems with cam/valve noise. The crews are nice and roomy, and a pretty quiet ride. The bodies are a lot better than they used to be, but watch for rust around the front fender and radiator support crimps. Attack it if you see anything before it gets away from you.
Whoever mentioned that the Chevy trucks are "built on a car frame" please pass me the crack pipe - I could use an eye-opener. You've been watching too many commercials and not spending enough time actually UNDER these trucks to notice. ;)

That was me...it's what I've been told by several people mostly at dealerships. (That could be my first problem.) Something Chevy did in the 1500 series to attract buyers that wanted a truck with a car ride. If it's wrong please forgive me.
Now where did I put those matches...

I personally know of 3 1500 Chevys that the frame bent severly or cracked very badly. It was kind of a suprise b/c the OBS trucks they had never did it.
it was farmers, so yeah it was put through hell. They now all have 2500HD Druamax's

The reason the 1500 Chev's frames bend or break is because it is a round hydroformed frame. If you put a 1500 and 2500 next to each other there are lots of chassis frame differences. The first thing you'll notice is that the 1500s have round cross tubing between the 2 sides of the chassis where as the 2500s are box tubing. Much stronger....
Aside from things like ride height, suspension and usually gearing among other differences...
Just thought I'd throw this out on the table...
