Aoshima AE86 Trueno

Made a start on this one which I'm planning on building stock  I thought about spraying it white but was afraid the the red plastic would bleed through so I've gone with Ford Radiant red. Clear is Mr Hobby super clear - it needs polishing out before I can start on the black trim (and there's lots of it !).
Rims are Fujimi Watanabes as the rears are a bit deeper than the Aoshima ones, tyres are Aoshima stretchwalls.

Just a quick update on progress - polished out the clear and added the matt / semi-gloss black trim (bit of a masking nightmare !). There's a few small areas that will need touching up but overall it hasn't come out too bad.

I can imagine the pain of the masking :grinyes: having to cut thin strips for the front skirt area...
BUT from what i have seen .. i think it has really paid off! turned out great!

Looks great Andy! I certainly agree that this is a difficult body to mask. I have built a Fujimi one before and it really tested my patience.

i wouldnt cut thin strips off masking tape, i do it in 2 parts ie do the black upper part first, then mask again for the lower part so that u wouldnt have to cut into the masking tape on the body, 1 slip and its history

I cut the tape on the body all the time. As long as the kit is well engraved, there is no problem.
This build looks really good! It looks like a good kit, Aoshima has some cool stuff lately, like this one and their FC RX7s.

Progress over the weekend:
The kit headlights are hinged so you can have them either open or closed -
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/trueno6.jpg
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/trueno7.jpg
The taillights are nicely engineered and come as seperate red/orange/clear parts - the reversing lights just drop in without the need to glue them.
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/trueno11.jpg
Also completed the interior - I couldn't bring myself to paint it brown !.
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/trueno8.jpg
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/trueno9.jpg
The engine is also finished - I haven't added agreat deal of detail over and above the kit except for the plug leads.
http://members.aol.com/jonesandy898/trueno10.jpg
So far it's been a nice kit to build - highly recommended.
Cheers

lookin real good. i just picked mine up (non motor) and am very pleased with the accuracy over the fujimi kit. for the engine, are the letters actually raised (part of the mold) or is that a decal?

The letters are raised and although the engravings nicely done it's tricky to paint - Aoshima include a
4A-GE decal for the timing cover but not the Toyota 1600 and Twin Cam 16 Valve lettering.
Thanks

Although you didn't do much extra to the engine, it still looks great. The plug wires alone add a lot to it.
