RF Door Latch broken

Hi,
The RF door latch is broken just behind the screw so will not undo the door. I bought door latches for my 1990 Geo Prism from eBay but do not have directions. I noticed that there is a screw in the middle of the latch. Guess, it wouldn't be that simple? Do I have to take the arm rest, and door trim and panel off first?
Any special tools. I am a 66 yr old lady and don't have the $$ to take it somewhere. No power windows, doors, et al. just roll up and good gas mileage. Wish my radio could play CD's

I think if it is like my 98 prsim just take the screw out & slide the cup part forward or backwards and it should come out far enough to get the rod off.
