BTW, THOR...I see from your sig you are trying to lose weight, right?
How much weight have you lost so far?
I am on a diet too. I was 265 lbs, and I am now 236lbs!!! My goal is also 180-200 range. I am 6'3" btw...how bout yourself? Keep up the good work!
Well, as a freshmen in high school I was 5'11''-6' and weighed in around 250 at my highest. I realized before a work picnic that it was pretty embarassing to bo so.... well.... fat. I had been picked on all my life about it so I decided to change it. I was finally down to 190 and came back up to 195 where it stayed.
Then I met this girl. She was amazing, everything I looked for in a girl. She had just broken up with her old boyfriend and we started to talk a lot and hang out. This was all happening in the end of November/early December. I even made her a fleece tie blanket and pillow for Christmas. I dont know if any of you have done that, but my buddies Mike and Tyler and I worked on it for about 3-3.5 hours before it was done. Then I went to the New Years Eve party (that she invited me to BTW) and she left early because she "wasnt feeling well." That was the last I ever talked to her. She quit meeting me between classes, talking to me on the internet or phone, and even stopped hanging out with our mutual friends when I was around. That curveball fuckin hit hard and deep. I fell into a slump; quit eating right, stopped working out and running, and got pretty depressed for a while. Even more salt on that wound was when our choir took our trip to Chicago this spring. She (Rachel) wasnt on the trip. I turned around to talk to my friend Andy and his girl friend Dani. Dani was wrapped up in the tie blanket I made for Rachel. Fuckin bitch.
Then graduation came and I got even more depressed because I was going to miss all my classmates you know? I started running again, but then I stopped running to get my Talon running. After a couple weeks of either working at McDonalds or the shop all damn day, I got it running and 3 days later fuckin spin a bearing. Another slump.
A week before I got to college I noticed I had gained some weight back (back up to 220) and decided college was going to be a change, I was going to eat right and excercise like I used to. So, 17 days after I moved in I am now 204. I am 6'3" too BTW. I am up to running between 6-10 miles a day (training for Grandma's Marathon in June) and I have sorta gone vegetarian. The only meat I eat is meat in the occasional sandwich. Its hard as hell to pass up the eggs, bacon, sausage, and hashbrowns at brunch on the weekends, but I remember being 250 and I was on the fast track to get back to it. So anyway, thats my story, still down 46lbs but up 9lbs from my lowest cruising weight in a while. As my sig says I am aiming for 180 by the end of the year, I have a feeling I will be back down to 195 in a week and a half or so, but those last 15 will be hard as hell to get off.
Figured a new thread would be a good spot for this rather than whoring up that other guy's thread. ;)
Anyone else have any weight loss stories?

Wow... I am the poor bastard who has been trying to put weight on for years. I eat like a damn horse and I seem to stay about the same... As of a few months ago I was around 120ish... Well, a ton of shit happened this summer with my life (I think I told you guys) I was a little depressed and I started drinking some and eating a lot more. I am now up to 147ish and am loving it cause I'm not scrawny anymore. I worked out some at just toning the fat I had accumulated (kinda) and I actually have a little bit of muscles on me now. It feels good to be a healthy weight and be stronger than you were just a mere 1/4 of a year ago. lol
Anyways, I think the drinking helped keep a little weight on my body. Then I always get the damn munchies while I'm drinking... I'm sure that played a wonderful roll in with it all. Yay for depression. lol

Anyone else have any weight loss stories?
As you quoted me in your first post I have also lost weight:
I have always been “fighting my weight” since about 5th grade. I have always been the tall guy and naturally have a muscular build, so I have always been able to hide my weight. When I was 16 and a senior in high school, I weighed in at about 230 and I was probably six feet tall then. So I decided to go on an exercise regime:
(This is my first massive attempt at weight loss). Like I said I was 230 and I used to run 3 miles a day, so within a month I had lost about 30 pounds and was right around the 200 mark. This is when I had seriously met the girl of my dreams. Not to get to emotional on you guys, but she wasn’t just any old girlfriend…we really clicked and were soon wrapped into each others lives. We did absolutely EVERYTHING together…might sound real corny, but we knew what we were going to name our children…
Anyways, this was the time of my life when I was fit and I was looking pretty damn good. So we went out for a year and a half and I slowly but surely gained weight. By the end of our relationship I was topping the scales at 270…talk about unhealthy. It might sound shallow in a sense but my girl broke up with me mainly because I was starting to look and dress like shit, I had really hit an all time low. Plus this girl was just plain out beautiful, I had really hit gold with her…I probably will never get anyone ever pretty as her. So we broke up and didn’t talk for 6 months, and I have recently started to hang out with her again. This is the main reason why I am losing weight once more…just for her.
So I officially started my diet on August 22, when I was 265lbs. As of today, I am 235lbs. a total weight loss of 30 lbs. My goal is to 180, but after consulting the web and other health conscious friends, they say I should be at 200lbs…but hell I just what to look good. :grinyes:
PS: Check out the sig, Dustin!

I'm trying to gain weight. I'm 5' 11" weighing at 140lbs. I'm ripped. I work out quite a bit and have tried weight gainer... with no luck. I want to put on weight so I can get muscle big, but it's hard as hell. I eat like a horse also, and I'll drop a few pounds.
When I had mono... I didn't eat ANYTHING for a week and a half bc my throat was closed shut. (God awful times). I lost 20 pounds, and gained it back after I got better in a week. It just packed on, and where did it stop? At 140. I can't seem to get passed that. IDK what to do.
I do want to say Congrats to everyone here that is losing or trying to lose weight. I know its hard. My girl is trying to drop some weight too. She's only alittle more than me, but shes struggling with that too. Good luck to everyone.

I know the feeling man, I was stuck at 120 for the last 2 years. Now I'm about 147 and I'm also about 5'11" and I would like to get to at least 155-160 and I'll be happy. Plenty of weight to turn into muscle then. lol :wink:

I am enjoying every minute of it. I actually had a girl check me out today. Not one of those ugly creepy chicks either. A normal girl. Good self esteem boost. I dont know how many of you are runners, but there isnt much that compares to runners high I dont think.

I actually found it very easy to eat good here. Theres always a salad bar and cereal that I hit up. Ha ha, actually now that I think about it I have had a salad and a bowl of frosted mini wheats for lunch and supper everday for like a week.
Heres my tips for losing weight.
1) Stop drinkin pop. I immediately lost 15 lbs after I quit drinking like 6 cans a day.
2) Exercise. Biking (stationary or road), rollerblading, walking, running, it all burns fat. I prefer running as it burns fat the fastest, but is not always the best choice if you have bad knees, hips, etc. Low imact activities such as biking and/or elliptical machine are good if you have bad joints. Start off light and work it up gradually. Remember, the more you excercise, the more fat you will burn. Just be sure that if you get hurt, rest up and dont overexert yourself.
3) Eat right. Dont buy into this "carbs are the enemy" bull shit. If you are going to exercise you need carbs. For the transition, I would stop eating unhealthy stuff but still eat when you are hungry for like the first week. You may or may not lose weight just because of this, but it will get you used to eating the right food. Be sure to get lots of fiber and avoid carbs from sugar. Also, eat until you are satisfied, not stuffed. Gradually cut calories until you are getting like 500-1000 caloies less than you are supposed to. www.marathonguide.com (http://www.marathonguide.com) has some good calculators under the "Training" tab that can tell you how many calories you are supposed to have. I would minimize meat but be sure to get protein, dont eat junk food, and eat lots of whole grain "bread group" stuff, vegetables, and try to get atleast a few servings of fruit a day. If you need to snack, do it with like 100 calories and dont do it more than twice a day. Be smart about it though, a 100 calories can take you a long way if you are good about it. For example, there are 100 calorie packs of popcorn that do an excellent job of tiding me over. Also, snacks like Wheat Thins and others have started coming out with 100 calorie packs, those work well too but wont fill you up as good as that popcorn.
4) Dont eat within like 4 hours of going to bed. If you do, your body will just take that food and make it into fat since you dont use many calories during sleep.
5) Sleep. Thats when your body recovers, adding exercise is going to need to take advantage of that.
6) Stick with it! It will be hard the first week or two, but it gets easier to keep with it and eventually you feel bad when you go off your diet.
That should set you up for a good, safe, and steady weight loss of like 2 lbs a week. Obviously, if you cut a few more calories and excercise a little longer you will lose more weight faster.
I am going to write a book on weight loss from my own experience some time, basically a longer version of what I just wrote. Take my idea, I take your left nut ;).

I'm 6'6, 260lbs, and kinda overweight. I remember a few years ago when I was still 6'6 but only about 230. Those were the days... Being in a relationship and going out to eat every single weekend sure gets to you. Luckily I dumped the bitch and I'm back on the road to greatness:grinyes:
I now go to the YMCA at least once a day to ride the stationary bike for at least 30 minutes, burning an average of 550 calories per hour. If possible, I go twice a day; the second time to play raquetball with my step-dad and I lift weights. I'm trying to burn the fat and I'm not really interested in getting ripped just yet but I still do weight training because muscle helps to burn fat so I do it. I drink one Atkins Shake every morning (like a Slim Fast), I eat a can of tuna in the middle of the day, then I eat a moderate dinner. At this rate, I know I can lose 40 pounds before Christmas, and 6'6 220lbs is good weight for me since I am already pretty muscular, just covered in FAT. and unfotunately, I'll have the stretch marks there until they fade...which suck major ass. It's gross to look at.:frown:

2) Run.
As an alternative, ride a bike or stationary bike. Though it's good exercise, running is hard on the joints and not everybody can do it. My left knee gives me problems sometimes, and when it does I just ride a bike.

I'm about 6'4" and weigh in the neighborhood of 280. I'd like to get down to around 230-250 but to be honest I dont care if I lose weight or not but I want to cut the fat but not gain any muscle because I'm already pretty strong. I bench around 250 shoulder press reps of 200 curl reps of 140 squat 300+(been a while) and not to brag but I'm rocking 19" biceps lol so I dont need any more muscle just toning would rock. I tried to start running a mile a day but once school started my schedual has been kind of hecktak. That and I dont have much motivation I guess lol. So Dustin, since I'm not as creativly inclined as you would you be able to make a scale for my sig? and if anyone wants to help me with motavition that would rock lol

I'm 6'2" and currently weigh 180lbs. Just last year this time, I was up at about 205lbs. Word up to weight training and just one measly mile jog per day. That weight was dropped in the matter of a month.

Hows everyone doing? Thor is past the halfway mark, 22 lbs out of my 40 lb goal. I just weighed in on Wednesday, 198. It feels good guys, I am starting to see the top two of my six pack and I am trading in the double chin for an adams apple. I still have a ways to go, but its good to see all my hard work pay off. I think I am going to weigh in every Wednesday after ultimate. At this rate, I should be able to get it all off by Christmas *crosses fingers*. How about everyone else, hows it going?

I must have missed this thead a little while back, I'm 6'2" about 350 and I'm about to start some major weight reduction. I'm tired of being called big guy, boss, budd, and all those other bs names for a larger than normal guy. The looks, the shitty name callin, I'm tired of it and now I have realized that I'm not just a growing boy any more, I need to do something about it while I still can. I would love to drop down to 260ish. I have a shit load of muscle mass with some flubber hangin a bit, so that needs to change. And as for the stretch marks they need to go. The worst thing is when you go into a store that sells clothing and you love like everything they have but guess what, they don't carry anything in your size like JcPenneys and Walmart. I have to order Old Navy online cause they don't carry my size in the store which I think is bull shit.
So I think that makes me the biggest guy on here whoop but not for long. I'm going to buy a scale that reads higher weights and I'm going to start weighting myself every Wednesday like Thor's doing. And I'm going to start putting in my Sig my present weight and my goal.

Sweetness good luck man. My advise: keep your eyes set on the goal dude. Its going to be tough, but keep a picture of yourself as a reminder, worked wonders for me. I would imagine there would be some motivation in those pictures of your daughter too, things like that will help.
I think its bad ass everyone is doing this. We should have a weekly report, every Wednesday people should post up how its going.
I just got an idea, I'll post up when I get it done...

I just weighed myself and I came in at a whopping 223! Just got back from work after one week off, and I must have had 10-15 people come up to me and tell me how good I look and to actually stop losing weight... but my ultimate goal is 180-200.
Hey ned, I think that if you have your ultimate goal in your head, it will eventually turn you off your diet. Do what I do and have "levels" as your goal. For example, I pretty much weigh 225 and my next goal is to be 210 and fit into a size 36 by halloween. (I am a size 38 now but before I started my diet I was a 42-44)
Also ned, the key to a successful diet is EXERCISE!!! I burn approxiametly 1000 calories a day and eat either 1000 or less (somedays a little more) a day.
ALSO! I totally agree with blackcrow...sex is such good cardio. (Thats pretty FAT when you think of sex as cardio...LOL) So i want everyone to get some pussy and burn those calories!
Good luck to everyone!!

Gotta get some calories though. If you dont get enought your body will go into "starvation mode" and actually try to pack it on because it wants to store it for later. Find your RMR (google RMR calculator) and try to get that amount of calories per day. Not to mention you wont get enough vitamins and minerals and shit.

Today started off good. I ran 2 miles ate a light breakfast and lunch no snacks and a pretty light dinner but at 9 my buddy invited me over for his 21st bday party and I had some beer and rum and stuff so I got some extra carbs there. I actually just got home. As far as the weight thing is going I dont think I've lost anything yet I've had a busy stressful schudeal as of late and hopefully that will change starting this week and I can start running and stuff more

I did the google search for the RMR calculator and I'm guessing that it calculates maximum calories per day? If so then with all the calculating I'm suppose to have 4579.75 calories a day. Thats alot, if I can even cut that in half I would see a huge difference in how I feel within the first couple of weeks.
Heres the calculations
The Mufflin equation for RMR:
* For men: (10 x w) + (6.25 x h) - (5 x a) + 5
* For women: (10 x w) + (6.25 x h) - (5 x a) - 161
Where:
w = weight in kg
h = height in cm
a = age

Stress and irregular sleeping habits will make the weight stay. Just a little info for you guys in college that never seem to sleep the same hours each night. I've been there, done that. Still do it once in a while but now I am on a pretty set sleeping schedule and I've actually had more energy than I did when I was in college.

I think RMR stands for Resting Metabolic Rate, I think its the minimum amount of calories your body needs to function normally. Mine is somewhere around 2200 I think and I usually get like 1800-2000. You just dont want to not get enough calories because that can/will be bad on your body.
ned032002

And sky high cholesterol and like a 14x chance of heart attack or heart disease. Stay away from those fad diets, good exercise and a well balanced (and semi carefully counted calories) is the best way to go. I've done it all, atkins, south beach, weight watchers, that one that you buy the food ahead of time (cant remember the name), anorexia, etc, etc but nothing will make you feel as good and lose weight (and keep it off) like a good ol' balanced diet and exercise plan. I just did some research, appearantly the fall that caused the Death of Dr. Atkins was from a heart attack and congestive heart failure. Ironic as hell isnt it?

My daily intake consists of NO MORE THAN 1500 cals a day. Today I had around 1100 and will burn hopefully 100 cals today. BUT when I first started my diet I ate somedays 300 cals a day (ONLY FOR 4 DAYS THOUGH) and I lost 10 pounds in that period.
NED, google "ketosis". It is very interesting...both me and my friend went on ketosis and both of lost about 10 pounds each. **If you do try ketosis, do NOT do it for more than 1 week...i did it for 4 days, because for if you do it for long periods of time it will fuck up your body. Read up on it...it real interesting.**

So basically ketosis is short term anorexia? I went one full week with one meal through the whole time. I dropped like 8 lbs the first 3 days and like 4 the other couple days. It was mostly water and food in the process of digestion that I lost, after it I was only like 3-5 lbs down.
I will show you guys some before/after pictures. I wish I still had that one of my with my Cavalier when I first got it, that was right at my peak of being fat. I have one close to then, but its just my face (drivers license pic). I am going to go hardcore until Friday and weigh in then. My brother's wedding is this weekend, I want to look my best for it. Thor will be a tad cranky this week, I am going to do a bit of distance running, ultimate, and working out and I am sure its going to wear on me emotionally.

So I still haven't been weighd (spelling) but I have been watching what I'm eating and when I eat. I love cereal so lately it's been a big bowl of cheerios for breakfast and the same for dinner last night. The way I see it is that you can eat a lot as long as you eat whats good for you. So I've been filling up on cereal mainly. I've cut my calorie intake by at least half and I'm not feeling anything yet but I'm sure It'll happen. O and I still don't drink any pop so water is my best friend.

ketosis
"Ketosis is a process in which your body converts fats into energy. During the conversion, ketones are produced as a by-product. Ketones can give your breath a sweet, fruity smell that may be mistaken for alcohol.
Your body normally uses glucose to meet its energy needs. Glucose comes from the carbohydrate in your diet. A healthy, balanced diet should provide you with all the glucose your body needs, so that ketosis does not take place. However, if your body does not have enough glucose, perhaps because your diet is very low in carbohydrates or you are starving yourself, it will begin ketosis to obtain energy from its stored fats instead. As a result of this, the ketone levels in your blood will rise. Prolonged ketosis can be dangerous as it can change the acidity of your blood beyond the level that your body can tolerate. This can eventually lead to serious damage to your liver and kidneys."

In order to loose weight effectively, you need to eat small meals through the course of the day and make these meals healthy, such as fruits and veggies. You should eat about 6 or more times a day.
By limiting your body to only one meal a day you are only hurting yourself. You may see a small weight loss at first but it will just be water and most food that is in the process of digestion like you said.
In short, not eating is a horrible thing to do to loose weight.

I was just going to comment on this. Instead of eating 3 meals a day like regular, eat 5 (i think 6 or more is too many). You'll still have your normal 3 meals a day (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) but make them smaller proportioned and then you have a small snack in between each meal. This will really help boost your metabolism, which in turn helps burn more fat faster.
And for you guys that want to really burn some calories, swimming is the BEST calorie burner, with hard running coming in somewhere around 3rd I believe. I read a big article on this awhile back, and I remember swimming burns the most calories by far.
God, I know all of this health shit, but I need to put it to use. Sitting in a tractor all day definitely isn't good for the body. I used to be a healthy, muscular guy. Played all kinds of sports and shit and stayed fit, but now I'm out of HS and my habits went to shit. I'm not "fat" i guess, but I definitely gained some weight, I'm getting a gut now. I think I'm sittin at 180 or so right now which is a fine weight for me, but I'd like to drop 15, and then add that back in the weightroom, and get back to my normal build. I don't want to be ripped as shit, but I definitely need to tone back up.
EDIT: If you guys like to read up on some heath articles and stuff like that, www.Askmen.com has some good stuff about eating and shit. Actually, it has some good articles about just every day life too. I recommend checking out the site, it's definitiely one that I like to read casually.
