My '99 altima has a squeaky front right wheel. I know the brakes need to be replaced, could that be all? When I press the brake pedal the squeaking stops. As far as I can tell there is no difrence in drive quality, and there is no shake. What could cause this?

Yes replacing the pads may be all that is needed. If the noise changes, more than likely the noise is comming from the brakes. You will have to inspect your rotors, hoses, and hardware.

Sounds to me like your hearing the break sensor squealing, due to low break pads.. the only thing you have to worry about , is when the squeaking stops. cause the next sound will be much more expensive. Metal to Metal = Rotors
