Now that I have everyone's attention, I found this article interesting. Though, I am not so sure we will be seeing F-150's with Vortecs and King Ranch Silverados, Ford and GM must be REALLY suffering lately. There was another interesting article in the newspaper that stated that Toyota is poised to take over as the largest automobile manufacturer in the world (currently GM); it's just a matter of when. Anyway, check it out.

I read a similar article on msn this morning. However, the article I read indicated that it was something that was talked about earlier in the year. I wouldn't expect it. I honestly think they would lose even more customers.

I could see having the F-150 and the Silverado being built at the same plant, but if the two were to merge and eliminate 1 vehicle from each class (keep the f-150, drop the Silverado, keep the impala, drop the 500, etc.) I think they would piss everyone off.

I dont see that really happening either, although its been done a few times. Back in 2003 Kawasaki and Suzuki had a small merger and to this day there are a few products that are identical available from either manufacturer. Although I would love to see the renault/nissan-GM partnership. When Renault merged with Nissan it turned Nissan around and staved them from going under.

The TODAY show had a short blurb saying that talks were over between GM and Ford and that they are going to stick to their separate "restructuring" plans, which include layoffs, downsizing and the such.

Sincerely,
Matt

Actually what caused Nissan to fly and succeed didn't have anything to do with Renault that I know of. It was actually two things happened:

1. the new CEO/President of Nissan joined (about 7 years ago). He brought new ideas and a high level of vision and ideas of new product directions and designs. 2002 saw the Altima totally restyled and recreated - a big success - he followed that up with the higher end car redo and the Xterra and the 350 and then .........

2. GM had a very creative and capable female design engineer. She had ideas for an exciting new van and an exciting new truck. GM laughed at her and said they would never consider it - a "woman" designing a truck. So she left GM and the head of Nissan hired her immediately. That alliance created The Nissan Titan, the entirely new Nissan Quest , and then the Nissan Armada and then the Pathfinder redo.

Nissan's leadership has been stunningly talented and "fresh" even though they are 1/3 the quantity of people and money to do it. GM and Ford have looked - in general - "hopeless" and "hapless" while Nissan leadership has looked just the reverse
