this is for you guys to decide. we have seen the advent of the solstice, and sky... but is it better then its predicessor? im trying to look at it from a ... "what can i do with this?" aspect. this is actually a carry over from a conversation that my dad and i wad having he was talking about his 72 (see a 72 below ) he wanted to drop a 327 in the fenders... or swap to efi and go turbo... both possible choices today. and i was telling him about the 100 or so solstices that are coming aout with the ls2. so what do you guys think? from a builders perspective... or hell there was the yenko vega(believe it or not) and cosworth stock to stock.
and if the picture doesnt show look it up. 72 vega hatchback

First, please learn to use coherent sentences. Second, a 400 hp LS2 Sky/Solstice would ****ing destroy the up coming turbo versions of each cars as they are going to be rated at 260hp if I remember correctly.
The Sky Redline and Solstice GXP are going to be sweet rides but they can't compare with a V8 swapped version.
Of course there is always the HotRod Solstice with a hopped up C6 Z06 Vette LS7 engine. (http://www.hotrod.com/projectbuild/hdrp_pontiac_solstice_ls7_project_build/)

Yea but keep in mind, putting a V8 into those cars will make them only straight line performers, they would be utterly useless in the corners. The turbo engine balances performance & handling a heckuvalot better.

How do you figure that? The handling capablities of the Solstice are not going to magically go away because it has a V8 in it. The only thing the V8 would change would be front to rear balance and overall weight. I would imagine a LS2 weighs a bit more than a Ecotec (though not too much as it is all aluminum) but it's hardly going destroy it's ablity to go around a corner. Besides, whatever the V8 car would lose in the corners to the turbo car it would more than make up with 140 extra horsepower.

Only if you do not apply yourself. If you do then the public education system can be amazing.
All the people ragging on public education are the people who sat in the back of class and blew off trying to learn anything. Then when they get out of high school and find themselves more or less unemployable they look for someone else to blame because surely they didn't bring it upon themselves.
ANYWAY, back to the topic:
The two cars are so different that it's hard to make an accurate comparison. A monster Vega might be worth just for the sheer crazy factor of it. If you like something kind of strange and wild then I'd go with the Vega. It's also a good choice if you don't have any hard core performance goals in mind except maybe some drag strip time. The Solstice offers a lot more refinement and overall capablity. If you like chewing up a twisty mountain road or autocrossing then it's probably the way to go. Getting one might be difficult, most dealers around here have just about their entire inventory of Solstices sold before they even get on the lot. And it will be a damn sight more expensive then the Vega but it comes with a warranty for whatever that is worth to you.
As for the Mallet Solstices, well you'll get a swap that is professional to the point of looking factory but it's not going to be cheap. If you seek a performance Solstice I'd wait and get a GXP.
