Power seat problems

Hi all,
The forward/backward adjustment on my driver's power seat recently quit working. All the other adjustments work fine: up/down and lumbar all work OK. Is this a problem I can potentially fix at home easily? I've looked under the seat and all wires appear connected. I'm thinking the motor may have went belly up. Any ideas for things to check (fuses?) before it spends a day at the dealership? I'm pretty dumb with electronics so anything beyond a simple screw-in part replacement is above me on this one.

Oh, model is 01 GTP.

Thanks,
Gipper

The 6 way power seat uses a circuit breaker and there are no fuses to check. Since up/down and lumbar is working the circuit breaker is OK.

About all you can do is check voltages and the ground at the forward/back motor-actuator. If present the motor is bad. If missing then it is wiring or the forward/back switch.

Thanks bnaylor. Either way sounds like an item for the dealer to take care of. Guess I'll have to start cashing in before the extended warranty runs out. Thanks again for the help.

I have a problem with my power seat too... the forward/back works fine, but the up and down for the front and back dont work. The lumbar works fine. Is there a seperate motor for the front and the back part? What are the chances that BOTH of these motors died at the same time? When i first got the car it worked a bit, but then it kinda cut out... i got the seat all the way down, but thats where it stayed now.

There are three key motors plus lumbar. Horizontal Adjuster Motor, Front Vertical Adjuster Motor and Rear Vertical Adjuster Motor. Although it is possible both vertical adjuster motors are acting up it is probably unlikely. From the switch assembly the wiring harnesses are separate. I would look closely at the possibility of defective/worn out switches since they are the common denominator per the GM wiring diagrams. Good luck.

BTW - What year and model Grand Prix?
