I recently burned my original stereo, because of a short in one of my speakers. This was like a month ago, and its drivng me crazy to have to drive around with no music at all. I looked on ebay for my salvation on this matter, and I bought a delco mp3 stereo from ebay a few days ago. Since the harness connection was different from my 06 silverado I did some research and found out that that stereo fits malibus 04, cobalts 05, g6 06, equinox 05, and up. I almost dismanteled my mom's g6 to take the original stereo off, and I found out that it was the same plug than the mp3 I had just bought. I connected it, and nothing happens. If i press the clock button, the hour comes up. I tried pressing it for several seconds and nothing happens. However, when I press the am/fm button for a few seconds, the doors chime for 5 times. I think its prompting me for a code or something, but I dont know it or how to input it. I also tried the procedure that you guys have used and nothing... Here is a link to a picture of the stereo on ebay, I bought it from this same person, and if you know how to fix this problem it is really worth it because it retails at the dealerships for $1,124.

Any help would be really appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I'm puzzled why wouldn't you just go by aftermarket? It's 100x's better than OEM. And you can get a quality mp3 unit for $150.

Shouldn't this be covered under warranty?

I know, but I only had 60 bucks at the time, and I thought I would be able to unlock it with the method that is used in this forum. If anybody knows how to unlock it, please help!!!

By covered under warranty, what do you mean? The unlocking of the stereo, or the burning of the original one. The original one got burned because I had installed aftermarket speakers on my truck but one of the wires got loose and made a short, and a lot of smoke started to come out from my stereo.

Oh, I didn't know you had fooled around with it, sorry. I'm sure GM will not replace your radio because of what happened.

You should try putting back the stock speakers, most of the time the stock headunit is way too weak to handle aftermarket speakers (unless your truck has a factory premium sound) system, maybe that's what's causing all the problems

I remover the speakers and found out that on two of them the black tape was comming of and some water was making contact with the wires. I put the stock speakers back this time applying plenty of black tape and isolating the previous installation. It looks now as if I had never fooled around with them. But still I dont see why the stereo would fry because of a little short on the speakers. After the oem got fried I installed an aftermarket one and had if for a while until all of a sudden the displayed dimmed and no sound comes out of the unit but a little beed when I activate "loud". I think gm should make their stereos more resistant. Anyways, you guys think that the stealership might notice why it got fried if I take it to them? It has no molten platic or anything, It only came out a cloud of smoke from it. Or maybe it can be repaired since I had a cheap $30 dollar "supersonic" stereo a while ago in another car, somehow it got burned twice, with smoke clouds coming out of it, and still worked like a pro.

If it was me I`would take the truck back to stealership and tell them "stereo does not work ,cloud of smoke came out of it ,don`t know what happened" .They are not likely stereo techs and will not pull it out and disect it .they may have unit sent out to electronics shop and if they say speakers pooched it you can say WHY. If you are not the cause of the water problem then someone else should cover it under warranty. Your profile says your 18 and you have an 06 Silverado . Any sales person with half a brain will realize that if I help this young guy out he may buy from me again. If they are not too keen on helping you then tell them(manager) such, I`ll NEVER darken your doorway again . See what happens you never know. Just Don`t tell them you did anything to it. Ya kind of deceitful but if you did not cause problem why should you be out?
Good Luck Muff
