bandpass subs sharing juice?

so a few days ago i blew the inline fuse for my power wire and since no one had an 80 amp fuse to replace it with i just bought a new amp wiring kit (it was old anyway). I also figured since i was doing this, i'll bridge the two channels on my amp to one of my subs (i have 2 in a bandpass) so one would get a more SUV suitable 440 watts instead of both getting a wussy 145. I hooked everything up and turned on the truck and, what? both subs still firing! I'm not complaining, but i don't know why both are still firing. (the speaker wire for the other sub isn't hooked up to the amp at all). are subs in bandpass boxes wired together or something? I didn't have this box built, someone gave it to me for free.

uhh.. no they arent connected. the other sub is reflexing...passive radiating. you say you have a bandpass box right? immense pressures are being applied to both woofers. the unconnected woofer is just reflexing

Its a concept bein used by quite a few companys now, theres companies selling purpose built passive radiators.

Infinity's powered setups like the basslink, use the same concept. Its supposed to give you around 3db gain.

a passive radiator is a VERY old concept ...... just be careful, bandpass boxes are very picky about sizes and ports. You may be damaging the other speaker too.

It's cool, i plan on upgrading to a single 12 in a month or so anyway, bandpass takes a lot of space.
