screwed on power steering flush

okay so i had to take my blazer in to get the oil changed at the local lube place (i don't usually do this but didn't have a choice this time) and i decided to get the power steering fluid changed also. I mean they can't screw that up right? Wrong. it seems like they just drained it all out and didn't add any back in. the pump made noises when i turned the wheel so i got some valvoline synpower fluid with conditioner and a syphon pump so i can do it myself in the future. My questions are if i added too much or too little. I only added 4 ounces from the 32 ounce bottle and the noises stopped but the stuff was clear so it was difficult to see on the dipstick if the reservoir was full or not and I didn't want to overfill the thing. Also, when would be a good time to change the fluid again mileage wise?

check it first thing in the morning when the fluid has had time to settle. you should be able to see the fluid more on the dipstick.

a little noise is normal when you turn your wheel to the extreme left and extreme right. However, though the noise is normal, you shouldn't keep your steering wheel cranked fully for very long. If you have noise in the general range of the steering wheel (simply turning street corners) you may have a failing pump ...

If it is so clear you can't see it you don't need to change it. When it starts to get brownish and you can see it with no problem now that's when you need to change it.
