check air suspension

1996 Mercury grand marquis , while driving on the highway the "check air suspension." Appeared on the dashboard! Is there some way that I can check to see what the problem is?
The switch in the trunk is in the on position and when I turned the switch off and restarted the car it indicated the switch was off.
