Hi all,
I have a 1998 Zx2 5-speed with 97,000 miles. The engine surges at about a quarter throttle on a slight grade hill. It runs at about +/- 3 horsepower in about 1 second cycles. Just enough to feel. Unplugging the knock sensor makes it improve some but when I reset the computer it goes away completly for about 5 driving cycles. Computer reports no codes. I have a feeling it's the MAF sensor. Is there a way to test it? Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

A bad MAF would set off a code.
Try changing the fuel filter. You may also want to monitor the fuel pressure while driving, could be the pump.

I would think a fuel pump or fuel filter won't "fix" for 5 cycles when the computer is reset. It has to be a sensor. I just don't want to spend $100 on a MAF without testing it first.

Update... I cleaned my MAF and all symptoms are gone. A dirty MAF/ Malfunctioning MAF didn't light up the MIL on my Zx2....goophy little thing.
