Throttle Positioning senser

Hi, 97 GPGT 3800, 114,000. My car threw an engine light yesterday, had it scanned and my trottle positioning senser has gone south. In trying to take the bad part off I stripped the bottom star screw. My question is where can I get a replacment screw so I can install the new senser? Any auto parts store?

I'm assuming the screw was a Torx saftey type and was it just the head and not threads?

You should be able to find a suitable replacement at an auto parts store or any hardware store that sells metric and SAE bolts/screws. Last resort the GM dealer. Just take the old one with you to match up the length and thread size. BTW - You do not need to use specifically the Torx safety type screws to secure the TPS.

Well, I checked a few places and they couldn't come up with anything so I just took the stripped head, wrapped the threads with a rag, put it in a vice and sawed the head to make it usable with a regular flat head screwdriver. It worked fine. Thanks Bob.

Sounds good Paul. Thats one way to do it. :thumbsup: Better than nothing. If you were in my necks of the woods I'd let you have mine off the spare throttle body for my GTP. I hate those Torx safety screws.

Yea they suck big time. Do you know the metric measurement on these screws? I'd like to replace them with different ones if the need ever came up again...

Not off the top of my head but I can check. To reset the SES light you can try but no guarantee it will work.

Won't hurt to try this. Remove the battery positive cable and take the ignition switch to start and hold for at least a couple of minutes. Also, turn on the headlamp switch. This is a field expedient method but may not always work. Of course, the best way is an odb-ii scanner.

Note : The key will get stuck when you try to take it to off but once battery is reconnected you should be good to go.

Ok, disconnected the battery and hooked it back up and the light is out. Yes, if you could get the metric specs on those throttle body senser screws, that would be great. Thanks again.
