need supporting evidence

My 02 alero is in the shop right now. It died, had it towed. they said it was the battery, just bought in april 05. I have the usual ALB, SVS, and ETC light come on when I turn the steering wheel too far to left or right. Everyone says it's the speed sensor. Let me know who else had this problem and back me up! thanks! Oh, and I'm getting the battery replaced by autozone where I bought it, but I thought I'd might as well get this other shit taken care of while the car was there, since the towing charge was $60.

I would agree that you have a wheel sensor problem which is part of the hub assembly. Another suggestion is have the wiring checked that goes to each wheel sensor. It runs along the lower control arm and is susceptible to getting damaged. Make sure the electrical connector that goes into the hub is free of corrosion, clean and tight.

If you decide to get whichever hub is causing the problem replaced make sure it is a good quality name brand unit. Be careful with Autozone and their cheapy white box made in China parts.

Bnaylor brings up a very good point. I replaced my passenger side wheel bearing with a "off" brand that failed right out of the box. I ended up a hub assembly made by TIMKEN (World Wide Bearing Experts). At least TIMKEN is a name I know.

Timken is a good brand. Also the AC Delco brand OEM replacement and BCA National hubs. Whats nice about the Timken brand is they specify the same torque value for the axle nut as GM so there is no guessing and none of this 180 ft-lb stuff which IMO is too much bearing preload.

I've got one just starting to act up on the passenger side. ('02 Alero GL2, 41K miles). Not bad but the humming sound is just starting to get noticeable. Time to order a new hub. :shakehead
