can it handle 400hp?

I have found a way to achieve 400hp from an `87-`93 302ci while using a stock cam and maintaining natural aspiration with a $3000 budget including the stock engine. The problem is that I have no idea if the corresponding stock 5-speed transmission will withstand that kind of thrashing "more than twice." If not, what is the better alternative? :screwy:

Thanks for any and all usefull info!!!

A T-5 is a wild card, some people have been running that long term without any problems and some people have blown it running much less. Obvously power/speed shifting is a no no, if you want to strengthen it you can G-Force it, but those kits are very expencive.

How are you going to acheive those numbers? N2O or Boost? Its N2O, that a big shock to the drive train, boost is a little softer.

My T5 WC had 30,000 miles on it, til I sold the car. It was still as strong, and shifted without any issues, but I had an S-Trim. If it had N2O for the power adder, I think the trans would have bought the farm by then.

Hey thanks for all of the replies, as far as the horsepower for dollars spent I simply found an inspiring technical article from CarCraft. I think this is the link

http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/116_0307_ford_302_v8_engine_buildup/

Obviously I'm unfamiliar with the hardware so here are my questions...
1- Is the "T-5" the stock tranny? and where can I find details on a "G-Force kit?"
2- Are there any aftermarket companies that produce complete trannys at that hp rating? :screwy:

Thanks everybody!!!

very interesting article. thats why ford needs to go back to making engines with a larger bore like they used to. the mod motors are more square in design for emissions.

Would this also apply to the 94-95 GT's?

i dont see why not, its the same engine. they actually show the increase on a 95 gt with the 165cc heads on the airflow research website. just the heads alone on their website give a 41hp increase.

true have to factor in weight, track, rim/tire rotation/size and gearing

well the regular T5 i had in my 82 lasted about 4 months of strong shifting at about 330 crank horsepower. when i got a rebuilt wc it lasted about 2 years and now its finally going out, so its all up to you. rebuild wc or upgrade.
