I am going to switch over to Synthetic Oil but what oil do you recommend using. I am thinking about Mobile 1 5W-30 or Castrol 5W-30. Which one is better or is there one better then those but not to much more in cost.

Royal Purple and Amsoil are the shit, but they are also what $8 a quart? Castrol GTX is like $12 per 5 quart jug and Mobil 1 is like $20 per 5 quart jug. Take your pick man, they are both good oils.

Mobile 1 or Royal Purple would be my pick, but why are you switching to synthetic anyway? Your car is used to regular oil, theres nothing wrong with it.

How can it over lubricate?

chill man...maybe she just wants a little bit of friction to make things go smoother..

Is it that time of the month again for another oil thread?... Sigh...

We have covered this topic many times before and its all in personal preference and experiences.

I vote Amsoil to be one of the best I have ever used. But, if you are wanting a much cheaper costing oil then I say Mobil1.

doesn't let enough friction and heat build up. I know that doesn't make sense but these motors run hot.

Huh... you are right, that doesnt make sense. So it would be a bad idea to run royal purple? I was planning on that for the rebuild once I get 'er good and broken in.

i notice with my car, a little bit thicker oil is better. maybe it'll change when i get a new maf, but when the oil pressure seems to drop the car sputters a little bit. when i put quaker state Q advanced 5w 30 in, the car sputtered a lot. I jsut put in mobil1 10w 30, and it runs and idles easily 3x better since that oil change about 2 weeks ago. next oil change time im gonna try a 40 weight. when i changemy oil i also use STP oil treatment, and i can feel the difference with that too.

true story of me showing a friend amsoil

"hey man check out this amsoil stuff"

"holy shit, it smells like science!"

Although it's a dumb story, it proves a point. Amsoil doesn't even smell like natural oil, it is not a blend like most synthetics, there was a study done where it wasted every other oil out there.

yes thicker oil is better for our cars. I have found 15w50 to work best personally, but that was in texas heat where viscosity is a bit less

I honestly can't stand the smell of it... Its got a really nasty smell, but you can't help but to keep smelling it. lol

How many miles does your car alway had ? if your car have over 85k miles, I would not recomment running synstec, cause most of the time, when you switch to syntec with that many like, it will cause your engine seal to leak. I find out that castrol gtx is the best, just change it every 2500 mile with mitsubishi oil filter or pureone.

It's all preference.

I prefer Castrol GTX, but in all honestly. it really is preference.

 If your car has alot of miles I would use Castrol Hi Mile 10/40 and perhaps add a bottle of Lucas to the mix.It wouldnt hurt to try it and if you dont like it i would go with Mobil 1 Syn/Extended Performance its like a 15000 mile oil.:loser:

Don't ever tell anyone to add Lucas to their oil. I read an article on here some time ago that showed exactly what that shit does, and it's not good.
