I bought a set of Sony Xplod 6x9's and am in the process of installing them into the rear deck however, I've hit a snag. The speakers only have two leads while my Grand Am has four; Red, Purple, Green w/Black stripe, and Blue w/White stripe. I can't seem to locate any info on which are pos and neg. Any help at all would be appreciated, Thanks.

You refering to your 01'?

One the speakers where the wires are connected thier should be a "+" or "-" or a black dot indicating the neg.

If you noticed thiers two speakers back there, the main 5x6 and a small tweeter, I'd leave the tweeters hooked up.

Heres a diagram,

Hope that helps, and Welcome to AF !

Noooo not xplods!!! :( Better than stock, yes, but...

How much did you pay for them? Normally they're like 100 or so at best buy right? If you want some of the absolute highest end 6x9's you can buy...

Look for the Infinity Kappa 693.7I's. They will rock your face off. Everyone at elitecaraudio recommends either these or some other ones that I can't remember. Only $130 for the set, and yes I've dealt with ikesound before and they rock :) Just something to consider if you'd like to make an upgrade again... the sound quality and power are like 10x better :)

I'm an audio guy hehe

Thanks for the welcome.

Yeah, it's for my '01 Grand Am w/the Monsoon System. I was able to hook the passenger side rear speakers up fine. Just had to splice the Green and White together the hook them to the speaker Pos side then the Yellow and Blue together and hook them to Neg side. Problem I'm having is on the driver side. Have a diagram showing that the Purple and Green w/black stripe are neg and that the Blue w/white and Red are Pos, but all I'm getting is static and a high pitched whine after hooking it up.

Just noticed they are 2 ohm impedance... Unless you know how to deal with that, I wouldn't get them. The Infinity Reference line is still better as well... I'd look into those next ;D Used a pair of references for a couple years (sister uses them now), and I'm using the kappas right now.

I'm not a huge fan of Xplod's either Vipey, but was able to pick the set of xplods up for 58 bucks and both rear speakers were blown, just looking for a quick fix until I can get the funds to do a decent upgrade. Thanks for the tips though

gotcha :) It will get the job done then hehe :) I blew my speakers too so I sold my moped when I was 16 and bought a pair of speakers. Then I kinda got hooked from there and now almost five years later here I am with thousands into my system lol

:nono::nono::nono::nono::nono: !!!!!

You should not hav hooked those together, you very well could hav blown the factoiry amp :yikes:( ie high pitched squeeels & static)

Should hav left the tweeters as they were and it would hav worked with just the 5x6 leads.

Sony is not that badespecially for hte price, but those Infinitys sure are sweet :)

I hav Pioneer in my SE they rock very well, but were pricy like the Infinitys.
I know the stock delco wont blow them out.

If anyone gets involved in audio and wants advice, elitecaraudio.com forums are the place to go :) I spent a lot of my time there before deciding on the things I bought. Many of them compete in competitions and one or a few of them are judges. A lot of audio companies have representatives on that site too like from Image Dynamics and stuff... pretty sweet ;)
