SS vs Charger R/T

first actual race ive had in the cobalt since i have gotten it, around 2,000 miles on it now, so should be broken in decently well.
So i pull up to a light to see a pretty blue charger R/T sitting there, i pulled up farther than him, and i noticed he pulled up more to match with me. Figured hed want to go. Light turned green he took of hard, not WOT, so i went hard, then at about the same time we went WOT. Peeled through first and made a nice shift into second barking the tires. Took 2nd up to 60MPH or so and shut down with a dead even race. I think i pulled just a hair on him, but not sure, it was a very close race. I was really impressed with the cobalt, i looked up the stats on those, and they run 14.2@102 MPH is what C&D got on it, with a 0-60MPH in 5.2 seconds.

The Charger R/T doesn't run a 5.2 sec. 0-60 time. I believe you are thinking of the SRT-8 model. The base R/T model runs a 5.8 sec. 0-60 time. In any event, good run. They're just a tad bit faster then your car, nipping the 1/4 mile at 14.1 sec. from what the rags have reported.

It's all about torque man. You have a smaller engine but you have a SUPERCHARGER so you probably make more torque than the POS N/A engine.
If you add torque enhacning performance mods (like an exhaust and CAI specifically designed to enhance torque over horsepower) you will probably murder him!

Charger R/T: 340hp, 390ft-lbs 4031lbs
Cobalt SS/SC: 205hp, 200ft-lbs 2991lbs
I suggest you learn your facts.
And even though the SS/SC is a bit underrated, it still makes less than the Charger R/T. It has a 1000lb weight advantage, that helps it keep up stock for stock.

car and driver ran a 14.4@100MPH with the SS supercharged, so going by those numbers, the only real advantage the R/T had over me was RWD, but we didnt launch anyways.

2 tenths of a second doesn't sound like much, but in real world performance it is more then a car length. Besides those R/T's are autos, which makes them a cinch to launch.

I really don't consider it skill to drive an automatic car. Gotta agree that GTP's are high 14 sec. rides in the right conditions though.

No need to cause an argument over such small matter. So you have an automatic. Shat-up. You purchased it, you live with it.
Go find yourself a 5 speed Cobalt, that's completely bone stock, and see what you can do then. If you lay that beat down on like you say you can, then post up a vid showing us how well you did. In another thread of your own that is. Ok thanks. Now play nicely.

Nice run with the charger, Jayson. I remember beating one at Firebird about 9 months ago that had a full exhaust(hearders and all)and a CAI. It was the guys first time at a dragstrip so I talked him through all the steps from staging, to launching to getting his slip. He was very greatful and a nice guy, although he was a bit old for having never been to a track before. He was over 30, heh.

go back and read my original post in this topic, I didn't take a shot at ANYONE or ANY CAR, I simply stated that people who rely on magazines to determine WHAT a car is capable of, needs to get a life... 9 times out of 10 an Import will be slower IRL than it is in a magazine and 9 times out of 10 you will pick up a few 1/10ths in a domestic, its called marketing, companies put big dollars in those magazines(and all companies are guilty of it) so ALL the numbers are skewed... It wasn't until people started the whole "go away wanker! you drive an automatic" crap that I started talking crap(or for that mattered even mention MY specific car/s), and even then I just stated the obvious, both of my cars will leave a SS Cobalt on the starting line, not running my mouth(there are fast Cobalts out there) just when you say no "skill" is involved in racing an automatic, you look kind of stupid when that same car spanks you in the 1320... Maybe there wasn't "skill" involved, but the automatic got the WIN LIGHT, that is all that matters, there wasn't an asterisk that says "this win doesn't count, this car had an automatic"... And about the time you run into a stalled, geared, 4l60e(automatic) LS1 f-body is about the time you realize you better have some serious mods before you line up with him, the t-56(6-speed f-body) guys don't want any, that is for damn sure...

Telling someone (such as Jayson) to get a life for using magazines for a comparison between a car that he had raced sin't taking a shot? Care to elaborate. Why the need to say "Get a life" for giving some of the readers who aren't knowledgeable of either of the cars some stats so they know what each car can run roughly? Some people here don't know what every car runs in the 1/4 or what they are capable. Providing an estimate of what each car can run for comparisons sake is a good way of showing some of our members what he was up against. Jayson is a respected member here, he provided simple details for our readers here, and in no way should you have told him to get a life for it.
As I view it, you instigated, considering this is his thread to begin, you had no right to tell him to "Get a life". You stated it already that you said that first. He made his remark, which could have been done in another manner, but you deserved it. For the sake of this thread and yourself, please shut up.

And really, how ignorant can you be? What exactly was the point of you trying to say not many people would want to line up to your car? Boasting about it here on the internet gets you pretty much no where. About the only thing you accomplished here was showing that you are a jackass. However, I will congratulate you on that. there is nothing wrong with reading magazines and estimating, hell I subscribe to Car and Driver, Road & Track, AND GM high Performance, however, at no time will I ever use what is in those magazines to try to argue, because no matter WHAT magazine you are reading, the numbers are ESTIMATES... More often than not people on the internet try to LIVE by those numbers, when in the real world, they don't mean jack shit... Once again, I'm not "boasting" about either of my cars, neither are what I would call "fast" but to downgrade them because they are auto is laughable... And once again I never singled out anyone in the whole magazine racing is for bitches speech, I just think that people who rely on a magazine to try to argue need to get off the internet and go to a REAL drag strip... Because you can't hide behind your Car & Driver once you get staged, as the old saying goes once the green light drops, the bull shit stops...
and the fact the guy defending using magazines for info's name is CivRacer95 pretty much proves my point on WHO uses magazines for their numbers....

I think anyone would look at a magazine's times to judge how well their car will fair against another car. If some dude is challenging you to race them in a 98 Mustang GT, and you've got a C5 vette, I think you'd look up the mag times and feel confident about beating the guy. The main reason people may, and that's a big maybe, run faster then what a professional driver does in a magazine, is because of density altitude, and of course track factors.
What times do your two rides run?

So, then what the hell is wrong with Jayson using estimates to give some of the members an idea of what he was up against? He gave a simple estimate of what his car runs, and what his opponent runs (according to Mags). As I view it, they are fairly close according to those estimates he provided. Not saying they can both run what the mags say, but still, it was on the streets and it was still a close race. Ever think about how good the other driver may have been or not been? So why the fuck do you think he was "living" by those numbers? He mentioned he looked it up as a comparison at the beginning of this thread. Get it through your thick and dense head that he was using it for comparisons sake.
Once again, I'm not "boasting" about either of my cars, neither are what I would call "fast" but to downgrade them because they are auto is laughable...
At what point did anyone "downgrade" your car because it is an automatic. I read the thread, and what was said is "it takes no skill to drive an auto". And that's a known fact. Just stomp on the friggin gas pedal and there you go, you're driving. How freaking hard is that? So when did somebody downgrade your car, huh?Although, you're not boasting though, huh? Yeah, well you view it that way and obviously talking to someone as thick headed as you are won't help. So, I'll let our members here decide what you were doing. Even though you made it clear in your post how boastful you can be.
And once again I never singled out anyone in the whole magazine racing is for bitches speech, I just think that people who rely on a magazine to try to argue need to get off the internet and go to a REAL drag strip... So, Jayson has been to the track on numerous occasions. He's provided his shit in the past: timeslips, vids, etc.. Most members that know Jayson know what he's capable of. He's been there to the drag strip quite a few times. Nobody here was trying to argue using magazines at all. He said it himself he was using it as a comperative analysis. So when was he arguing using magazines, huh? Show me where. I've been through this entire thread, and during my reading, the only thing I've found is that you got all butt hurt over the fact that two members said it takes no skill to drive an auto. Boo-hoo. It's true.
and the fact the guy defending using magazines for info's name is CivRacer95 pretty much proves my point on WHO uses magazines for their numbers....
Yeah, I totally rely on magazines for numbers. Get a fucking clue man. Saying that is a freaking cop-out. Yeah, you really made it clear that I use them to defend my point. Care to show me where I did that? Oh, that's right, you can't. I was defending Jayson's point here that it was a comparison. Let me say it for the last time, A COMPARISON. You understand that yet? He, nor anyone else, tried to argue using magazines times to make a point. He was on the streets, and anything can happen. He hung with a Dodge Charger R/T, last time I raced one, I found they weren't nearly that fast. So why do you doubt his ability to race one?
You came in here, spouted some bullshit about using magazines is for bitches and ricers, and then get all butt hurt because you have an auto. Face it, those are the facts here. Generalizing anyone as a bitch or ricer for using mags as a comparisons sake for a story is completely out of line. You say you weren't attacking someone, but in truth, you attacked Jayson and his story. Next time, save your shit unless you have something intelligent to say. It wasn't needed in this thread, and most certainly won't be needed here in AF. You continue your shit, and I'll gladly send you on a nice little vacation to take some time off from AF. Alright, anything else, and I'll gladly press that little "Ban" button. Now try and get along with everyone else here.
Because you can't hide behind your Car & Driver once you get staged, as the old saying goes once the green light drops, the bull shit stops...
Boo-hoo. It's true.

so lets see, you are "skillful" in that you engage the clutch but the point of drag racing is WINNING... So what good is being skillful if you can't win? And once again did I ever hate on using magazine numbers to compare cars? NO! I said MAGAZINE RACING is for bitches and ricers, that is where someone says what they did in their car and ricer Johnny runs in saying "Bull shit, Car and Driver sas 0-60 in 6 seconds and a 14.8"... Which once again, more often than not is the case when magazine numbers are mentioned, at NO TIME did I say anyone in here was in violation, I simply said MAGAZINE RACING IS FOR RICERS, guess what, it STILL is... As far as the whole Automatic talk, I know my cars are automatics and I'm happy with them, the LS1 with the gears STILL nets 20-21mpg in a mixture of city/highway driving and the gtp gets mid-20s(if I stay out of the boost)... As far as not involving "skill" once again, who really freakin' cares, people drag race to WIN not to say "look at me, I'm skillful!"... And its a KNOWN fact that a stalled Automatic is the best drag racing choice, maybe not in 4 cylinders that don't make crap until 9k rpm, but its definitely true in cars with a MODEST powerband in every rpm and with low end torque....

Yeah, we know an automatic is best for drag racing.
That's a known fact, proven time and time again by the fact that any professional drag racer worth his weight in gold uses some form of automatic transmission.
Anybody with an IQ above that of a waste basket will probably know that fact.
This thread is done... shall we just let it drop? That'd be great.
Thanks:thumbsup:
