dead battery or dead starter?

IMy 91 corolla won't start. You turn the key and all there is is a click. No start. The starter doesn't do anything and the solenoid doesn't either. After a few turns like 5 - 10 turns of the key it comes on. Everything will come on. The lights will dim when its starting though. I can turn the dome light on in the car and when it does start, or when it doesn't, the dome light dims while the car is cranking aand then it comes on and the lights go back to normal. Anyone know what might be wrong? Is the battery going dead? I do have subs hooked up I thought maybe they were draining the battery too much. Or is it the starter going out? Any ideas?

Seems to be a charging problem. Do you have a capacitor on your alternaor for the subs? If not, get one. Subs put a huge drain on the battery and charging system, and depending on your sound systems total output/power of the alternator, you may want to also buy a higher output alternator too.

The clicking sound is your starter solenoid pulling the contacts together. The contacts are worn out and are not completing a conection from the battery cable to the starter motor. You can replace the contacts in the starter solenoid or just replace the starter. Low battery voltage increases the load and decreases the length of time it takes before the contacts burn away.

Have you tried cleaning up the terminals first and jumping it? How old is the battery? I generally replace my batteries after 4 years at the first sign of a problem. A virtually dead battery can cause any or all of the symptoms that you have described.
