MX6 trashed (56k hell no)

Hey all;
You may remember me talking about my boy who has a MX6 in some posts. We always cruised around and everything and I've put a lot of wrench time into his car. Sweat, blood, and tears. Anyways, he was in a wicked car accident a couple weeks back on the expressway. We're talking major bad.

A corvette aparently cut him off, and he doesn't remember the whole thing, but basically he lost control and spun out. A Civic then slammed into him on the drivers side. You'll see how bad it is when you get to the pics. The passengers head went through the window. Both had seat belts on, however, the airbags DID NOT deploy. He's going to try to see if he can sue Mazda or something. Just check out the pics here.

After all of this, my boy had a fractured jaw (in 2 places), a mean cut below his eye, and his whole left side of his body bruised. He's actually going back to the hospitol tonight bc they're thinking he may have a broken or fractured rib.

Very lucky he wasn't killed... His guardian angel was over him that day...

He probably won't be able to get the whole airbag thing to go over very well. Since the car has been modified they will not be liable for the airbags not deploying... If they know how to play their cards that is... But then again, he might be able to if he did nothing that could effect the airbags deployment and/or sensors... Hopefully he can get something out of it from somebody... Tis a shame it had to happen.

Actually, I hit a guardrail once in my Firebird and the airbag never went off... Neither did the one in my Talon when I hit that deer. Coincidence? I think I'm gonna be eating my dash one of these days... :uhoh:

Insurance companies know how to play their cards, he won't see a dime from a lawsuit. It would just cost him more money. Hopefully his insurance company will give him some for the car (they can pull the whole you modded it without telling us therefore voiding our contract deal) no lie.

Yup... Exactly...

Thats insurance companies though... this is the basic fact that the airbags did not deploy on a high speed impact and has nothing to do with insurance. The airbag deployment issue would have to be brought up with Mazda. What mod could have anything to the air bag shit? None that I can think of. Since he wasnt seriously hurt, I dont know if he could have gotten a big settlement, but I would hope he would atleast get a grip to buy a new car.

Money talks. Period. An excellent lawyer can do anything you want, here in the USA

And holy hell, does that wreck look absolutely horrific.... glad he made it out in one piece.

I'm not saying one could have. But I can guarentee you thats what Mazda will try to throw down on the table.

If it doesn't have side airbags, they wont go off. The airbag sensors are mounted in the front of the car and will not deploy the bags unless set off. To the looks of it, the front of the car has not been touched what so ever, therefore the bags will not deploy. On our cars, the sensors are mounted right in the front of the fenderwell, if you take off the splash guard, you'll see the wire that connects to the sensor. I'm glad you're buddies okay, but I'm willing to bet he won't get anything but laughed at for trying to go after Mazda.

It turns out he doesn't have a broken rib or anything. He did some really light working out and he didn't take his pain killers. So he was in pain. His right side is still all bruised up. Here's some more pics...

We all find this awesome. This pic s looking into his trunk. He had strut bars all around. We think this one actually saved his life bc his gas tank is right there. We think the think would've exploded if there was no strut bar.

But there are ones in the back incase of a rearender right? Look at the drivers side 1/4 panel. That definately should have set off the airbags.

I don't believe they have rear airbag sensors, they don't really surve a purpose of you get rear-ended because you don't fly forward in a split second. Maybe it's different, but our cars only have them in the front fenders.

Is that the sensors in the inner fender wells on each side?... Because if so then mine should have deployed when I nailed that deer and is spun around and nailed my fender and destroyed it... I did some routing if the wires and its something connected to the ABS, but I'm not sure why it would be.

The sensor with the red connector is the ABS sensor I believe. I haven't looked in awhile, but the sensors are somewhere up inside the very front of the fender wells, IIRC.

most airbags that are front only tend to have a front sensor only. I agree with gthompson the front isn't damanged enough to have set off the airbag.

Look at the website thats out there to slander mistsubishi cars and look at eclipse complaints (i know he didn't have an eclipse...) but it's an examplt... Hundreds of complaints filed about airbags not deploying. When you read how they were hit it's obvious why... the sensors weren't effected (or affected?) at all.. So I'm going to say thats what happened to him..

He is so lucky.
Sucks for the car
Cars are replaceable..
People not so much.

hey david, what is that wrapped around his rim in like the 3rd or fourth pic? It looks like pieces of a hubcap....

Yeah, thats the other guys hubcap. It's still on the car right now too. It looks weird as hell when you see it in person bc it looks like its not even broken from an angle. Looks like 2 rings put together... magically. haha. Adam says thanks for all the words. He didn't think I would show the pics to anyone online. He's actually doing a lot better. Bruises are going away more and more. He's going back to the hospitol this week to get his jaw checked out and get whatever metal he has in it out from the surjury.

He's no longer going to buy any fast cars. I mean this is his 2nd MX6 he trashed. This was the first one:
http://memimage.cardomain.net/member_images/11/web/503000-503999/503921_4_full.jpg

He's either going to buy a 4 door sedan (no EVO, I tried already), or a SUV. He wants to put 20s on the next car. haha.

Whoaaaa, just joking, after two totalled cars I dont blame him.

There are lawyers who deal with this kind of accident and settlements. I would suggest telling him to seek one out in this case and get atleast a consultation(as they are usually no cost) and see what they say.

We started scraping the car today. Someone offered $700 for the motor and tranny, so we're going to pull it and sell it off. Someone bought the rims, don't know why. And someone bought the front strut bar. He's trying to take out the back one, bc he thinks he can get it flattened out and resell that too. Look at the pic above... it's impossible to even take it out bc its wedge in so hard.

On the plus side for me, I bought his CAI off him. I'm going to use the piping to get my short ram into a full CAI. Same width and it looks like I just need to do some little cutting to drop it all the way. Should be easy as hell.
