Look in the trunk of your car, under the decklid. You will see a label that says "Service Parts Identification", with a bunch of 3-digit codes on it.

Look at it for ones that start with "G", i.e. GM8, GU4 etc and post all of those here.

3.23s would have been standard with the L99 engine.

Only for the 9C1, a civi car is most likely to have 2.93s but know of a freak 2.73 and 3.23. The 3.23s are in a 8.5" which was standard on the 9C1 too. A civi L99 car is most likely to have the 7.5" again 2.93, posi was not even an option with that axle in this car, traction breaks parts and that is a weak axle for such a large car so they madesure it got no traction even though they put it behind the base motor.

Ahh.. Yes 9C1 on the brain here....

I thought all of the 91-96 cars came with the 8.5" 10 bolt though. I know they are all the 5x5 bolt pattern.

If the L99s with those higher gears are 7.5" units, those are especially weak..

I do not know about the 91-3 cars but the 7.5" was available in the 94-6 cars but only in a civi L99 car, the L99s lack of lowend means it is in no real danger there but a LT1 swap will frag it if you get traction. At one point there was a guy who kept throwing aftermarket posis and gears at the 7.5" in his stock LT1 swapped car, between posis and gears I think he broke it 4 times before he disappeared off forum. Gobber swore he was going to have a 12 bolt built for it.
I on the otherhand have half a brain and just got a 8.5" out of an LT1 car for $125 and another $55 for the driveshaft which is a little different from the 8.5" the posi in that axle still functioned when I took it out after 2 years. That axle came with lower control arms swaybar and springs as well as complete brakes. I had to have the drums cut and put shoes and hardware in it because the drums were warped(first I ever had that happen). I put 3.42s in it for awhile on the stock posi and it heldup to 12.6 second ETs, then I swapped to an Eaton and 3.73s and have since managed 12.3 full weight yet.

If you need an axle it only makes sense to get the 8.5", IF you get lucky you might even find an L99 9C1 one and get 3.23/disc and even a slight chance of posi.
