i was just looking through some old posts for some info and i noticed that some of Taranaki's posts were edited or deleted. what gives, is he still around? and while i'm at it, what about Matada too? are they still around and moderating? i haven't seen either one post in a while.

ah yes. i miss those days of me and naki going out in either the political forums or philosophizing forums. good times, good times indeed.

i was on that other forum for awhile, but i didnt keep up with everything going on so i kinda got lost and disappeared.

I wouldn't say he was really receiving flak. I didn't see eye to eye with him politically, but he was a good debater.

Yes he was and is a good debater, but I have to disagree about the flak. There was a troll that came on the site, that I had never seen before or since, that basically just insulted Taranaki, calling him Taranooki and such and having long winded abusive replies. The political forums are difficult if impossible to moderate and this went on for some time. I guess he just got fed up with the abuse.

Well whether you liked him or not I believe theres a saying something like:

"Your time in life was not well spent if no one realizes you're gone"

or something like that. That was my vain attempt at intellectual thought for the month

Taranaki's debating style was ruthless and agressive; he rarely conceded any point and was seemingly tireless in digging up evidence to support his numerous postings.
This is to his credit; he was very very good at arguing a point.

Some people love to argue like that on the internet; I do not since perhaps I have too much empathy and respect for others here at AF.
I quickly learned not to participate in any thread in which he posted because I simply did not appreciate the resulting hostility.

There's a difference between arguing a point, and using personal insults, so I feel that empathy and respect has nothing to do with it. I may respect someone, but still disagree with their point, hence I will argue with them (but not use insults).

I'm an independent conservative so I don't take offense to that.:grinno:

Unfortunately there aren't more people that visit that forum. For a while there especially during the 2004 election year it was filled with a constant hot fire of threads.

I'd like to see more people come in. Even to just say you disagree or agree and give your :2cents: as long as the personal insults stay out, it's a good way to learn our differences.

I do a lot, but sometimes threads are already 3 or 4 pages in...

or, it's the same topic broguth up and I've already been in those discussion numerous times. It depends. I switch between that and Philosophizing. I don't like to start debatale threads...only get involved in them! :icon16:
