Ive been lookin around for a good 6 cylinder 5 speed car and ive been lookin at some eclipses but i just found a 2001 cougar for 6500 with 90000 miles on it. I dont really know much about these cars i was just wondering if theres any pros or cons that i should know about? I test drove it and everything seems good on it and is 6500 to much for it??? thanks in advance

yes 6500 seems a bit high for that many miles, according the blue book thats about average though, the 01's and 02's arent bad cars, the 99's and 00's had all the problems.....

DO NOT BUY THE 99 FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!! :nono: this car has so many problems that it will end up costing you a fortune i promise. i just had to replace the engine in one because of some wierd crap. (this is after of course i put over $2000 into it over the 3 months i owned it.) every mechanic i have talked to has said that the 99's are worthless. there is a reason why they don't make cougars anymore......

the 99 and 00 are the years you dont want to buy. They just had many problems.

You might as well just pick up an svt contour. Its essentially the same car. You can pick up a nice 2000 model for $5-6K. Not to mention, youll get the 200 hp motor instead of the 170 hp cougar motor, along with the better handling and nicer interior.

ive never really had a problem withmy wifes 00 cougar (Knock on wood!) i think it all depends on who had the car before you and how it is driven. we bought ours of some guy who babied the hell out of it, andits got 83k on it now and ive had to do nothing except change tires and brakes and a belt tensioner.

i've heard this about the 99-00 model cougar... and i've seen it too as proof... but i have a 99 and it has 215,000 miles and going strong, dont get me wrong it's had problems, but what car doesnt that has over 200,000. i Know the guy that had it before me and we are good friends, he drove the hell out of it, and i drive the hell out of it. ( well as much hell as you can for a slow car) but i know what you guys are talking about, a girl i know has a 99 and that is the biggest hunk of junk. looks nice yeah, but i dont know how many times that damn thing wouldnt start.
