The guy was pacing me on a two lane expressway, blowing off every few seconds, trying to get me to bite. He had all the goodies. Car looked clean. It was a deep red color with black aftermarket rims, chrome lips, a big fricken FMIC and JDM style titanium side exit exhaust. I'd wager that significant funds had been spent on that car. With wifey in the car, 100lbs of office equipment in the trunk and the AC pumping I initially fought the urge to bite. The sumbish wouldn't give up though and when we pulled next to each other at a stop light and he started revving that blown SR20, I felt like an alcoholic at an open bar wedding. I was completely in my element but totally out of sorts.
I hear this little voice say "don't fucking do it Brian". My conscience? Nope. It was my wife. The light turns green and I half expected him to just take off like a bat out of hell. No such luck. He starts off slow...again...pacing me...again...it was humiliating. My wife yells at me "just make him go away". OK. At about 15mph in 2nd gear I had just about enough. I was only doing about 2.8k RPM's but I floored it. Even though I was off the boost I had the jump but, for sure as shit, I know he was in the right gear judging by his engine noise and tranny whine. At about 80mph I let off with a good 4 or 5 car lengths and still pulling. See the thing is kiddies, even though I had all that crap in the car, the AC on, and the office equipment in the trunk I'm now running on aftermarket cams, cam gears and a boost controller...untuned.
Friday afternoon I go in for another flash and dynotune. :evillol:

Cams...HKS 272s? EVO FTW!!!
Nice kill, sounds like the SR20 had a bit of power, but was mostly talk. I remeber when I went to HIN last year, every single 240 there had an SR20 swap, but they all ran high-mid 13s, they all said they wanted the SR20 cuz it was JDM.

Good kill. I doubt he'd make a good match for you with the new mods. Your car should be running 12's easy. I love how Evo's sound with the cam.

Nice kill. My friend is building up a s-13, its been under the knife for about 5-6 months now. Whenever anyone asks him what engine he put in it he just laughs and says "it doesnt have an engine" and walks away. Maybe it will be decently fast like the one you raced but i guess ill have to wait a few weeks to find out.

Thanks guys. It's fast but there are plenty of faster cars out there. The cams are HKS brand 264/in & 272/ex. I'm expecting between 280-290whp on the stingy Gruppe-S Mustang dyno with HOPEFULLY 300wtq. Figure that's about 330whp/350wtq on a Dynojet dyno.
After the race my wife is like, "that made my stomach feel wierd, like a roller coaster...you don't do that kind of stuff a lot, do you?"

yeah the SR is a great motor, most the of the guys with SR are running aroudn with stock turbos though. you upgrade the the turbo on a SR and they can be pretty deadly.

hahaha, that statement is very true
however
an SR20DET done right is....fucking :naughty:
An S14/15 Silvia with an SR engine is very very different to an USDM 240sx with an SR. It's because most of the 240sx's have just a few bolt-ons. I don't think american tuners have enough experience with the SR20DET to really get the potential out of it because it is not as widely available as the KA engine. Hence the perception.

The SR has been in the US for long enough, I'm sure the US tuners know what they're doing. If anything, the aftermarket for the KA is the one that's lagging behind the SR. You have to remember, the SR was a big thing 4-5 years ago, were people were buying them up like crazy.
The KA was still pretty much untouched untill a few years ago when they started getting backing by big companies and now are on par with the SR in power delivery.

yup, thestig hit the nail right on the hit. when the SR crazy started back in 98 or so, the KA barely had any aftermarket parts for it.
when i turboed my KA back in 02 almost no one had it in the tri state nyc area. i was one of the guine pigs and i was lucky to be very sucessful with it. finally just like probrably 2 years ago, people finally started to see the potential of the KA engine and is willing to boost it if hte miles are low and the engine is in good condition.
no body with a KA was doing 9's until this year.

ah i see. The feeling i got from these boards was more the other way round, that the SR tuning was much more rare. I guess I always assumed this because the SR was never available on the USDM.

I love how people downplay the SR just because its JDM. It's aluminium block and stock turbo so it gives you a more reliable tuning base to start from than boosting a KA.
Seems like ka-t or sr are different means to the same end though.

No you don't get it. Lots of people have/are getting SR swaps, so naturally, with anything that becomes popular there are its detractors (ie haters). So these people just brush it off as a JDM fad (SR iz played yo KA turbo 4 lyfe etc etc) when in fact there are perfectly good reasons for getting the engine.

I agree with this.
Sure not all JDM stuff is better than domestic stuff but there is quite a lot that is. For example, when the DC5 Integra Type-R came out here, I was real excited cos the USA got some tuned down version called the RSX-S. I thought we got the same one as the japs got. But no. It hit our shores with a detuned version of the engine which became known as the K20A2, the recaros are gone, suspensions is pussied out a little etc etc. The JDM version of the Integra Type-R was simply a meaner version of what we had. So of course, if you have a JDM DC5 Integra-R, you had a better car.
I mean, even with the S15 silvia, we got it here badged as the 200SX (SR20DET and all). But ppl STILL imported it from the JDM - because it's a fad? No. Cos the S15 silvia was a meaner car than the 200SX. Simply for starters, you could get the 250bhp version on the JDM where our diferent versions just had different trim and were all 200bhp.

I'm assuming you're either European, Australian or a New Zealander because Nissan never offered the USDM 200SX with the SR20DET. North America's 200SX was only offered with the crappy KA24DE or KA24E. Power output was no where near 200bhp. It was actually more like half of that.

no the usdm 200sx had the sr20. of course that's the fwd 200sx.
or if you want to take it to the old school, the s12 200sx had v-series v6 or ca18.
the 240sx, altima, and pathfinder (at least) had the ka motors.
