96 Skylark 3.1 int start issue

Have a 96 Skylark with the 3.1 V6. Drove the car a short distance, up to temperature, shut it off for 5 minutes and then wouldn't restart. The car would crank strong but not restart. After about 45 minutes the car restarted fine and it has been driving and starting fine ever since. It doesn't need a tune up. Battery and starter are newer. Has good fuel pressure. I was thinking of an intermittent fuel pump relay? I also have the wet driver's carpet issue, but it has been dry for a while, are there any ECUs or wires under the driver's floor mat that could cause the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Walter

Are you still having the problem? Fuel pump relay is a possibility but so is the Passlock VATS system which is a common problem. Do you ever get a Theft/Security light?

Due to possibly a defective key cylinder or control module located in the Instrument Panel (IP) for Passlock the pulse to the fuel injectors will be disabled making it look like a fuel delivery/supply problem.

The car is not equipped with passlock VATS system. Any other ideas?

Thanks again!

No Passlock? Thats a first.

I noticed your thread on the fuel pump relay. According to my documentation it is supposed to be located with the relays at the passenger side strut tower. The only other component I can think of is the Engine Control Computer (ECC) aka PCM module. Its located under the passenger side of the dashboard.

You mentioned fuel system pressure was good. What was it reading if tested with a fuel pressure tester. Unless it was already replaced I would not rule out the fuel pump and possibly the fuel pressure regulator. Good luck.
