Aaliyah Is Dead

I just heard on my local radio station that Aaliyah died today in a plane crash.:( :eek: This is very sad news to me because i absoulty loved all of her songs but unfortunatly i do not have any other cds than her newest one and i wont hear any new songs from this beutiful and talented girl. :( Also for confirmation go here http://dailynews.yahoo.com/h/ap/20010826/wl/bahamas_plane_crash_8.html

I was sitting at work in the wee small hours of the night when the news came over the TV....what a waste of talent.

yea i heard about it this mornin at 5am. didnt think much of it b/c it had been after i passed out from bein drunk. but then at about 9 when i got up for work i heard it on mtv again and realized it was true. its rellay to bad she was a great actor/singer.

....another thing that just happend that kinda freaked me out . I was flipping the channels on tv and there she appeared on MTV's Diary . It showed stuff she did 7/13/01 which is about a month ago ..it really is SAD :(

so sad... she was on her way back from shooting her new video .. she had also just finished filming for the matrix 2 and 3 - she was at the height of her career - sometimes "the good die young" - :(

There was a Britsh Reported who recently died as well, who is reknown for helping destroy apthied in south africa, but the news is so full of some silly little almost "pop" star that I cant remember his Name. And he did a lot more for the world than Alihya ever did, or could ever do.

Get over it, poeple die every second, her death was no more or less special. (unless your her manager, in which case you now need to find another source of income. :D )

Regardless of other opinions, I just wanted to shed light on something.

Aaliyah was a talented artist who has touched many and enlightened dozens of people across the world. Her music has touched many people in whatever ways, be it in sadness, joy, rough times, etc. I enjoyed her music very much and am deeply saddened by the loss of such a talented person. I don't know her or vice versa, yet I feel the same sorrow as her family might be feeling. While we never may be able to tell when our time is about to come, it's in cases like these when we realize how short life really is and how we should make the best of it.

The old saying, "You never appreciate things, till they're gone!" is something that is so true in everything. We take things for granted, never thinking that maybe tomorrow it won't be there, or worse, we won't be there to see it again.

The Hip Hop world is dealt yet another blow and as before with the deaths of many artists beforehand that died in senseless tragedies, we move on. Aaliyah has blessed us with her music, she will go on in our memories and in our hearts.

Moppie - that was pretty harsh. I agree with your point that shes no more important than a thousand nameless people who die everyday. These people also mean the world to someone. But, thats still no reason to rip on such a tragic incident (although I plan on laughing my ass off when Castro and Saddam finally croak).

I'm suprised that Castro and Saddam have lived as long as they have. BTw, I heard something about Aaliyah's plane being very overloaded in the report. Something like 8 people on the plane, and it was a pretty small plane.

Overloaded and an engine failure. Basically, the plane could manage 1700lbs. Now you factor in 9 people, luggage, and stage props, they pretty much exceeded that. From the reports that I am reading though, the company that rented the plane to them, for some reason decided to send them a smaller plane knowing that they had that much stuff. They flew in a bigger one to get to the bahamas.

Yes its a great loss to "hip hop" and the "R&B" "comunity" (the people who can longer make money off her limited talent that is), and its always sad when someone so young dies, when thier right on the verge of having a pretty extraordinary life.

But you have to remember that none of us actualy knew her in person, an as far as the music industry is concerned she will be forgotten about and replaced in 3months.
There's also the pathetic idle worshp that seems to go on around people like her. Think why she got worshped? It was because she's pretty and can sing, and has a whole Record company Marketing her as something really great and special so they can make money of the suckers who believe it. In reality she's just another normal person, probobly has a friendly and out going personality, and can sing enough to get by. Other than that her Aunt just happens to be Gladdis Night, who helped her get where she was. It could have been anybody who had a contact in the industry, Talant and personality are all around us, I know several people who would make great "pop" stars, but they never will becuase they dont know anyone with the right contacts.

All the time famous people die, and get worshped for nothing more than haveing had a pretty face and being made famous by someone else, while people who actualy acvieve something in the world go by totaly unnoticed. Its a rather sad look at what we hold as being valuable in the world, and a very depressing look at what our core values and morals are.

Sorry if I upset anybody, I just wanted you guys to think a little bit about what you where doing.

not necessarily, look at 2pac he died over 5 years ago and he's been popular the whole time.... he's on the cover of a magazine right now, and he's been dead for 5 years (if you believe he's dead)

i'm not sayin aaliyah is gunna be popular for the next couple years, i'm just sayin that i don't think she'll be easily forgotton

However I think you missed my point. Im only a few years older, significantly more educated, and with that education have a greater potential to affect change in the world than she ever did. However it would be a subtle under the surface change and the majority of the general population wouldn't care, and would have no idea.
Yet if I died tomorrow you would never know about it, even though it would be a similar loss to that of aylhia, same if I died in 45yrs time.
Why? becuase we make people famous not on what the achieve in the world, but on what they look like, and becuase others tell us we should worshp them.

Go back and think about why your more affected by her death, than the other thousands of death that occur in the world everyday. Essentialy they are all the same. A loss of human life is loss of human life, its a loss of the most precious thing we have.

moppie i'm almost sure that she wasn't as popular in new zealand as she was here.... you probably didn't even hear of her till this year or last year, event though she's been very popular in the U.S. for like 4 years from what i can remember... maybe 5 years ago? I much music did a special tribute for her last night, she was really talented IMO
plus she donated large amounts of money to charities all over the world, i wanna see you try to do that

You have to remember that the US is not the whole world.
In fact the Population of the US is pretty small compared to the Populations of China, or India, or Asia. Infact if a chunk of humanity the same size as the US population suddenly died the world would continue to exist with very little difficulty. (its happened before.)

Your all worshping someone because the media tells you too. Not because of what they achieved. The same thing will happen when someone like Tom Cruze dies. Whats he ever contributed to the world?
Hes not an especialy good actor, hes getting old, only about half my female friends thinks hes attractive (and none of my gay friends), and hes losing a large chunk of his fortune in his marriage break up. (I wont even mention the fact that hes australian. :D )
The only thing great about the man is that hes been hyped into "super stardom" by the media so that we will PAY to watch his movies and his TV specials. Thats all there is too it. He's just another normal person like the rest of us. If you were to meet him and sit down and have a coffee with him (with out knowing who he was) he would seem like just another normal guy from any where.

Aaliyha is exactly the same, some innocent girl, with the right conections in the industry who has been hyped up by the media so that record producers and executives can get rich of our own guliblity.
MTV will make a huge amount of money off the Aaliyha special, and are doing nothing more than exploiting her death, and the sense of loss felt by her family.
The more you get riled up about it, the more your surporting the hype and explotatoin and lossing touch with the real issues and problems in the world today.

What im getting at is that your paying her "respects" while thousands of other around the world die and get nothing. Infact people more famous than her die, but becuase thier life served no comercial purpose we only see a short spot the news and thier forgotton about.
Once any economic gain has been drained from here after life she will also be forgotton.
I think that is a sad thing, and its up to us the consumer public to do something about. Instead of taking our moral values from the marketers, try giving them some instead.

i said SOMEWHAT "knew" her.... not that we actually knew her, but we knew alot about her, from watchin mtv/muchmusic interviews, reading articles about her, etc. we knew what she was like and everything, just not in person.... so we KINDA knew her

this kid in africa i don't even know what he looks like, i don't know what he likes to do, etc. i don't know anything about him..... if i knew what he looked like, and read or watched an interview with him, stuff like that so i'd kinda know him, just not personally... then i'd pay my respects to him too

You see I have a problem with thinking one death is more important just because you knew of one person but not of the other. Just because you saw someone on TV and heard them on radio is not a justifiable reason to treat them as being special. I dont see any Valid reason that makes the life of a "pop" star any more valable than any other life.

and no I will never Give up. We are allowed to disagree, I think thats a good thing, but before we can do that we each need to understand what the other is saying.
