hi i need some help with my 95 neon. It started shutting off about 4 months ago and i was told to replace the battery. I did so and the problem stopped for a few and started again. It turns off while im driving and doesn't always start. when i played with the battery cables it will start, but it will still turn off. can anyone help???

tighten your cables? You can get new ground and power wires for your battery. It would be under $20

Check into your alt as well , your car should run just fine without a battery once it has been started , so your Alt might be failing / shot as well.

well i replaced the terminals and the spark plugs and it still didn't work. if we leave it alone for a few hours and then start it it starts and will run for a short while. but if we try later, it won't start. somebody said something about a fuel pump???? i know that will be expensive.....

why does everyone have a solution and no answers?
Maybe if you people would stop putting in useless answers someone might get the help they need. Not all this nonsense it could be it might be i had this and on and on.

Because it's almost impossible to answer a starting question without actually looking at the car. People post their experiences so that it may or may not help. You need 2 things for the car to start....fuel and spark. So what would you have us say, check for those?

look into the crank position sensor.... 95 have problems with these as they are the old style sensors they tend to break into two and will cause the motor to shut off and not immediatly start back up. just a thought

its on the back side of the motor

On my '98 it was the crankshaft position senor that was shorting out when engine warmed up. Car would run when cold but after she warmed up it would die and not restart until the engine cooled down. Difficult to diagnose as it would not code out until engine quit. Bottom line ,take it to Auto Zone for a FREE code scan.
