My car was very boggy on acceleration at times it would straighten out and run fine but most of the time it woudl bog down very bad when pressing the gas pedal. So anyways about a month ago the fuel pump went out on the car. I though to myself i had found out why it was running like that. So replaced the fuel pump. It started but still was bogging down some. So I took it to a garage to see what codes it was storing. He said it was a 42 or 45 i cant remember off teh top of my head. Anyways he said it was a O2 sensor. So i replaced the O2 sensor. Still bogged down but had to drive it anyway.
Drove the car for about 2 weeks around town.
Then one evening got in drove about 4 blocks and was at a light for a highway. Light turned green i turn and started to accelerate during which the car bogged way down almost as if it died but then picked up and took off. i drove the car about 5 miles turned the key off and went to visit relatives. Got back in the car got gas. Started the car up drove about a mile down the highway and it bogged down till it died. wouldnt start back up. Towed it home. Got in and tried to start it and it started and stalled out thats all it would do.
So had someone come do a fuel pressure test on it. It pumped up to 35 to 40#. Still he said to be safe he would replace the fuel pump again. So it was under warrenty still so replaced the fuel pump yet again. Still is doing the same thing.

Now the car will start and stall out. Maybe runs for 3 to 4 seconds and stalls.

Things I have checked and replaced.
Check fuel pressure its fine at 35 to 45#
Checked Ignition module check fine twice and checked bad twice. Was unsure so replaced anyways. Along with coil packs.
Check coolent temp sensor its fine.
Changed TPS
tested MAP sensor by unplugging it. Someone told me if it was bad by unplugging it. It would run stay running but would run badly. No change.
Replaced Idle Air Control Valve no chnage.
Tested Alternator its fine.
Checked all fuses none are bad.
Replaced fuel pump relay and checked fuse beside it.
Replaced crackshaft sensor. No Change.
checked the fuel reg. by taking off the vacume line no fuel is coming out.
Replaced PCV valve. no change.

Had it checked for codes not getting any codes.
Battery has been disconnected do to trying different things ran down the battery several times. Had to charge it back up.
I have tapped on the ECM no luck there.
I have tried starting the car and leaving the key turned to see if it would stay started it dies and goes back to cranking.
If anyone has any ideas on what it might be before I start testing the Injectors please say so.
Oh I can also hear the fuel pump turn on when I turn the key. Seems to me its getting fuel at the initial start and then the pump either stops working or its losing spark some how or something i cant firgure it out.

Welcome to AF, can you keep it running by spraying carb cleaner into the intake, what is the fuel pressure when it dies after the initial start?

After the car dies its 35 to 45# havent really tested it since the second new pump i dont have a tester and cost everytime i get someone out here to test it. Havent tried the starter fuild and see if it runs will try it tomorrow battery is being charged up now went dead after leaving the glove box open all day and night long. Will let you know what the results are when i the battery gets charged up.

If the starting fluid Max suggested doesn't work, then I'd suspect a bad ECM. The "tap test" doesn't always cause the ECM to break down. If it does, then it's definitely bad, but if it doesn't, you still can't rule out the ECM. If your ECM has GM service number 1227727 on it, then it's highly probable that it is your problem. That service number has a high failure rate.

Hi Guys,

This is my first post in this forum. I own a Lumina LS 1988. It has a mind of its own, it runs perfectly well some time, and rough most of the time. But it never stopped on roads. Two weeks back, one fine morning, i started and drove it for 2-3 miles and it died suddenly. I start it again and and drove well for another 15 min. It died again. I could start the engin again, but it dies after a minute or so( even at idle). Some times it would run 5 - 10 minutes(idle) before it dies again.
I went to a mechanic who told me that my injectors are clogged. He added two bottles of AC DELCO fuel injector cleaner into a fulltank. and started the car again. To my surprise, the car started running smooth. I have't seen my car running this smooth in the last whole year.
After a week of happy driving( about 1000km), my Engine died out on road today again. I could start the engin again , and drove home(3miles)- it died twice on the way. My petrol tank still has the same gas mixed with injector cleaner. Its starting , running for 5-10minutes(idle) dying.
I am yet 2 see the mechanic again.
Any clues?
please help!

Well to get back to you guys on the car, Things I have done since last post... first off the car will stay running shooting Gas etc etc into the intake. I tried another ECM no luck same result. Though I did get a pressure test of the fuel pump 40# and doesnt fall off at all. Im thinking it maybe a bad injector. Going to take the intake off and test the injectors. anyone know what they should read on a ohm meter. I thought i saw a post that said test one and if they all test the same they are good or if one is lower or higher its the bad one. Never messed with injectors really all that much any advice is welcome.

I once had an Olds that had much the same problems. Found out that I had used some good fuel system cleaner in the tank and it washed off the sludge in the tank. The sludge would get sucked up next to the tank filter (sock) and restrict the fuel flow. Then the car would die and the sludge would drift away form the sock and let us start and drive the car till the sludge clogged up the filter again. Had to replace the pump and filter. I do not know if the Chevys have this type of filter in the tank. Just throwing this out. Good luck.
