my sportage is a 2001 w/ 85k miles and just lost a large amount of power out of the blue this morning......
I have not done the timing belt yet. i was thinking that, But it runs up to high rpm fine when in neutral and also shifting......
It takes forever to shift and feels like it is maybe not locking up the torque convertor......?
went and got a code scan:
P0650
MIL Control
Circuit Malfunction
P0128
Coolant Temp
Below Thermostat
Regulating Temp

Is there a way to check the timing too see if it jumped a tooth?? other than disassembly to replace it anyways?

replaced both thermostat sensors, air filter, fuel filter. same problem.
Going to check timing belt tomorrow if not raining....... Also thinking of cat convertor being pluggged..... might try to tear into that too....
ugh

Anyways, it was the timing. The belt jumped two teeth.
All better now

you lucked out on the timing belt not being off any morre than that. Much more and you would have bent some valves!
