How do you make one of the lightest and best drag chassis even better? Put an LS1 in it of course. Check out this website. LS1Mustang.com

It says that it was easier to put the Chevy motor in than take the ford motor out. I don't see how that makes much sense.

^^ I have seen a 502 big block thrown in a Mustang before. It was in a replica of the GT500.

Smaller block.
Lighter.
Actually kinda looks better under the hood as well.

That was my way of thinking too. Now I have a car that has a 9" inch Ford rearend. LOL.

Even still, I'd probably put a 12-bolt back in it if something ever happened to it for that reason, even though I know you can get bigger spline axels in a 9" (35 in a 9", 33 in a 12-bolt).

Saw the title, and thought it was the first Ford to hit 100,000 miles in one piece  jk, interesting read.

not entirely true actually. the 302 and ls1 are practicall the same dimension wise. the 302 is 29" long, 27" high, and 24" wide. the ls1 is 28.75" long, 28.25" high, and 24.75" wide. the 302 is about 70 lbs heavier though due to not being aluminum. the 4.6l/281 on the other hand is much larger and heavier than both of those engines, im betting you were thinking of that.

Is that just the block dimentions? I would think that including the intake manifold that the 302 would be taller than the LS1

i checked a couple sources and that seems to be the height on them. 27" or 27.5". although i think if you were to buy a high performance intake manifold it would raise the height a little due to the engine design.

I don't know the heights but my buddies GT40P intake manifold raised it a good 2 inches over the stock HO intake manifold

yeah im not sure, but i think it has something to do with it having inline valves but idk really. i have read though that high performance intake manifolds on a 302 are a little higher than stock.
