rough idle

Saturday night when I started my car my girlfriend and I immediately noticed something wasn't right. The whole car was vibrating and idling real rough. The rpm was in its normal spot(around 700 I think) and wasnt jumping up or down or anything like that, it just didnt sound right. The check engine light wasnt on. So I cut it off after a few seconds and then started it back up and it was still doing the same thing, so I kill it again. Poped the hood looked around checked the oil and air box,etc.. Every thing looked good, so I figured I would give it one more try and started it back up again and everything was normal again. So we decided to take my girls car just in case something wasnt right. I get back later on that night and I take my car out for alittle drive, everything runs fine. Drove it around town and to work today and still no more problems. Has anyone had a problem like this? Or any idea's what would have caused it to do that? It scared the shit out of me! I hadnt driven the car none that day, havent got on it any lately. I had washed my car earlier that day and that was the first time it was started since I washed it, think maybe I sucked alittle water up some how?

How does the MAS looking. that's what it sounds like. could have been the sensor was loose or something and when you checked te air box. you might have put it back in place witout even noticing. but i'm not sure. sounded like MAS without needle jumping around. whatever it is, it isn't anything serious.

The mas looks fine.(mas=black box with wires going to it on the intake pipe right?) I talked to the mehchanic at my local mitsubishi dealership and he says it sounds like I got some "bad gas." Still hasnt done it anymore, and hopefully it wont do it again.

Also my car is under warranty with the mitsubishi dealership I called and the guy said if they looked at my car and it turned out to being something that isnt covered under my warranty or if it is just "bad gas" then they would charge me 50 bucks for looking at it weather I got it fixed their or not. Is that not some BS? He did make this comment " I would hate to charge you 50 dollars and then tell you that you just got some bad gas, so maybe you should just wait and see if you have anymore problems before you bring it in." So I guess their not 100% shady.

ok, when you drive it does it stagger and putt putt ? also what i have done when i get bad gas is i got out to autozone and buy my a bottle of octaneboost, throw it in with full tank of gas and burn everything on the highway. see how everything goes.

It only done it that one time and I didnt try to drive it, I just cut it off. I dont think its anything to worry about but I would like to know why it did it.

i got ya. i don't think it is anything to worry about either since it only did it that one time. let me know if it happens again. many possibilities why it happened.

10-1 you got water on the coilpack or spark plug wires and it just screwed with your spark. If it were real bad you'd get a slight misfire and a blinking CEL. I saw it happen all the time at the detail shop I used to work at. No biggie. If it continues to act that way anytime it rains out or is extremely humid in the mornings, replace your spark plug wires, then teh coilpack if the wires don't solve the problem.
