3000GT vs. 3500GT

Here's a little background. My friend Julian blew his motor out 4 months ago, and a couple weeks ago he calls me up really excited because he just bought a 3.5l montero engine to swap in. I think, cool, this is gonna be a fun project. Well, things were going pretty okay until we actually dropped the engine in
It turns out that he rushed through the install, and had a pretty big vaccum leak.

Two weeks later.

We go out cruising at about 4 in the morning, and decide, hey, it'll be fun to see how much he can kick my ass now. We line up, its about a 60 roll, and take off. No honks or anything, he just punches it. I go half throttle because I'm still trying to warm up my car. To my suprise, I start gaining on him. We shut it down before I catch up and pull into a Whataburger parking lot. He and I discuss this problem, and he says that 4th gear feels reeeeeaaally slow. So we head out again, and this time I go WOT. From 60-90 I pull 6 or so car lengths on him. This is an engine thats supposed to have at least 80hp more than mine.

I'm pretty happy right now:iceslolan

3500GT?

Good kill. Sounds like that swap has been a PITA. For all the work and hassle he has and will go through a TT swap has to be looking pretty good.

i've heard of that swap, it is supposed to make more power, but not if it isn't hooked up right or if it has bad compression.

GEEZ!

Is the montero engine a high rever like the 6G72 in the 3K?
Ive driven monteros but they are meant for low torque and pulling capasity not speed.....then again that could all be in the transmission and gearing but I still would be pessimistic.

Good kill you dirty bastard!

Hmm, any idea waht teh engine came from... there are apparently a few different 3.5s, I don't honestly know too much about hte swap but I do recall there being a few different options, and it was one specific one that was easier/better to swap in then others. Then again, I think more TT guys were considering/doing the swap than NAs, so I dunno. For that matter, do you know if any other NA guys have done it? Do you know what their results have been? 80hp more always sounds great, but perhaps it has more weight with it, or needs a different ECU, or something....I dunno. More info may help. Congrats on the win though.

I'm not sure of bore and stroke of these motors but here's an idea...

How about taking the Montero 3.5L block, and swapping in the 3.0L SL internals... so you have a, in theory, destroked motor that has larger bore, shorter stroke... make it a rev happy N/A motor. That'd be cool...

Just found out. Spark plugs were gapped reeeeally weirdly. Anyways, he now has the same redline as me. 6,000rpms. But...I still beat him. And that's all that counts:cwm27:

6000 rpm limit? SOHC?
Instead of dropping in the 3.5 he should have just did the TT conv.
On a side note, of course 4th gear is slow, its NA:p
