Auto Tranny Good for 6.5 Diesel?

Hey I need a good work truck. I've been thinking of a late 90's GMC or Chevy crew cab with the 6.5 turbo diesel. I like manual transmissions, but I notice that most came with autos. Which auto tranny did they use with the 6.5 turbo? And is it any good?

If it looked like this I'd be happy (of course minus the emergency lights).
