Hey my buddy is thinking about building a racecar out of an MR2, for solo 1 and SCCA GT2 class. Did some research and from what I can find leads me to belive that the gen 1 handles better but the gen 2 makes more power. Just want to know some opnions, any sites of or anyone you've know thats made an MR2 racecar would be great. Its gonna be taken down to bare frame so any problems can be fixed, not going to have stick suspension what so ever. Going to be checking frequently so I'll know more of what he wants as time passes. Thanks in advance.

www.mr2oc.com will have a TON of information for you, however I have and am currently campaigning a mk1 race car. I can probably answer most questions you have, and what I can't Jekylandhyde probably can, as he has a mk2 for the same thing.

There is no more "Solo 1" and "Solo 2."
Solo 2 (autocross) is just called "Solo" racing now.
What was called solo 1 is now called Time trials.
Before you decide anything, I would decide exactly which class you want to race in what series. Then research which MR2s are competitive in class and go from there.

great advice
too many times people just "build a racecar" and have no real direction with it and end up sinking way more than they shouldve getting it legal cause they are buying things twice or buying things and having to take them off cause they are not legal for the class
