Well, my 2nd hobby order of the summre came. That leaves one more from HLJ to go. :) Unfortunately, the seatbelts are in the next one, so the Lancer is still on hold.

Ok, the point of this post is that next week on Thursday I will be back in school. I want to finish at least one more model before I go back to school. To accomplish this I am going to do a box stock buildup of the Impreza 2door in the above pic (since Fujimi are ridiculously easy and simple models). Oh yaeh, going to be putting the WEDS TC005 rims on it. It's going to be in TS-50 blue with gunmetal WEDS. This is gonna be the progress thread

Two things: The OZ Racing rims are basically higher quality and bigger size BBS knockoffs of the one in the Revell ITR kit, I'm not complaining though since it will be a lot easier to fit these onto Japanese kits, plus they're in scale! And: I finally have some Epoxy Putty. :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D bodykits to come!!! :) :) :) :) :flash:

Dan,
Sounds like you are going to have a nice looking Impreza there.....there is one near here that is that scheme and it looks hot.....I have that one of those Fujimi kits here in the closet to build a replica of my own car.....let me know how the kit builds up......

Ray

P.S are the stock kit wheels decent quality?

daggerlee

freakray - the stock wheels are pretty decent if a bit small, I would say probably 15" in real life. The WEDS are 17" (I think) I'll make note of any buuilding problems in this thread :)

FOTW - LOL! This will be my first TS-50 kit :flipa: :finger: I think TS-50 looks the best on Imprezas (since its used on their rally cars!) The R34 and Evo 6 blues are just imitations :flipa: :flipa: :D The only other color I can think of that would look good would be silver..

That's one sweet Impreza you have freakray. Red's not a color normally seen on Imprezas but I agree yours looks very nice. :) Better than that Blaze Yellow color they've been offering on the new WRXs!

I guess total was around $70 dunno about shipping yet.

Hi... can I check... what's the size of the OZ Nova?? Is it 18' or 17'??? I was thinking of getting that set of wheels also. Thanks.

I have a set of WEDS TC005 rims as well......i am disappointed with its small size comparing to Aoshima 17/18" wheels.....

I also wonder is the size of OZ Nova same as WEDS TC005? can u compare and make a snap of pic for both rims among each other and show to us?

OZ Nova is 18"..I'll take a picture later...

And it's a McLaren!!!
Congrats with the purchase! Let us know how you're getting on with them. Did you order the Marlboro logo's with it?

Ok, got some pics. Here's the rims for comparison:
http://mywebpages.comcast.net/kaiyao1/STi/wheels.jpg

As you can see (sorry for the crappy quality) the included STi (I think? Prodrive?) wheels are the smallest of the bunch, 15" in real life. The WEDS are bigger (17") and the OZ Racing Nova are teh biggest of the bunch (18"). As I mentioned before the OZ Racing Novas are basically official versions of the rims included in the Revell ITR kit (they are the ones all the way to the bottom and left). I compared the two and they are almost the same size. I need to mention though that I think the Fujimi rims are of much better quality than the Revell rims. THough, I can only wonder how big the Revell wheels must be in real life since Revell molded theirs in 1/25 scale. Probably 20"? :)

The kit contents, with Initial D advertisement :) :

As I said, pretty basic. Three-four piece suspension in front and rear, basic exhaust, basic interior. The body needs to have vent holes on the hood scribed out. I will post more as I get to working on it. Finally, I had a change of heart and am going to paint it silver (TS-17). :)

huudo - I didn't order the Marlboro decals. I feel this kit will be a good excuse to use that can of Tamiya fluroscent red I have, and also t oserve as an introduction to the world of F1 modeling. :D

Dan,
The wheels that came with the kit are replicas of what my car has, they are factory Subaru rims and only came in gold for a limited range of cars, like the WRX STi inJapan, the 2.5RS in the USA....basically the top of the line Impreza's in each respective country. The wheels on my car are 16" if that helps any.....if you look at the photo I posted and compare the 'look' to the kit wheels I think you are right saying those are 15", they look like they have more tire wall than my cars.....
doubt that helps you any....

freakray - the tires are 225/50VR15 (Pirelli CinturatoP7's) on those special Subaru rims.

freakray
08-29-2002, 08:22 PM
yep...and my car has 225/55VR-16 Yokohama AVS dB
The car did come with Bridgestone RE92's though, but all this is trivial because it has got nothing to do with your model.
How is it coming along?

I cut out the vents on the hood. I kinda brutalized the plastic surrounding it so I will have to sand and putty that smooth. Made some scratches along the hood when scribing that will have to be sanded/putty. Its coming along good tho.

Sounds great! Welcome to the world of F1 modeling i'd say. If you need some reference pictures for that one, let me know. I'm a McLaren die hard so, I can always look into my books :D and scan stuff for you, if you want.

ps. I have all the McLarens but didn't start them yet. I want them to do too good  so I'm a bit worried in starting them and then screwing them up....

Sorry to go slightly off topic dan, but can someone tell me if the Fujimi version VI Imp is supposed to be the P1 model??? I saw it advertised as being so on ebay, but i thought this was wrong - can any subaru enthusiast confirm?

I would really like to make the necessary parts for the P1!!!

Sorry FOTW, can't help ya there :(

I sprayed the body yesterday, the rest of the kit should go along pretty easily. Note about the front bumper - they included an extra front lip for the bumper. Without the lip the front bumper is not even with the sideskirts and rear bumper.

I'm undecided about rim color and brake caliper color. I was thinking of leaving the rims stock, aluminum silver, or some sort of STi gold/bronzish color. The calipers I thought about red (the STi decals are red) or black. I'm open to suggestions..

Hi daggerlee,

Paint job is excellent! :jump: Next clear coat?

About the rims colour: what about Tamiya's X-10 Gun Metal? The Sonax and D2 Mercedes DTM are like that it's dark but something special. Goldish/bronze would fight with the bodycolour I think.

Calippers red! Would make a standing out contrast with the Gun Metal Rims. :D

Hey what happened to the TS-50? Hope it wasn't me that put u off;)

I agree, gunmetal rims and red calipers, great combination.

I tend to disagree....i think the gold rims would set it off better with red calipers

what do you think of smoke(i think it's x-19)over the gunmetal

patate - my previous experience with X-19 suggests that it won't do much when overlayed on a dark color like X-10.

Anyway, my parents lent the digital camera to a vacationing friend for 2 WEEKS!! :angryfire :angryfire So no progress pics for 2 weeks. :( The silver lining is that if my friend likes the camera (Powershot S30) enough she might buy it and my dad will of course want to upgrade to something bigger and badder. Oh well

Back to the model, chassis/interior was sprayed, wheels sprayed Gunmetal (majority wins!!). The chassis is a one piece chassis with a very simple suspension, the front suspension is made up of a one piece control arm and 2 springs, the back suspension is just a onepiece suspension without shocks/springs. ride height is pretty good, no lowering required. The interior is usual Fujimi, one piece tub with minimum door detailing and generic racing seats included. The seats are molded as a single smooth piece with no lines representing the paint demarcataions between the black, grey, and red colors the instructions call out.

Sorry for the lack of progress pics.. :(

YES! a majority from 2 against 1, that's what I call democraty :finger:

Anyway, don't mind the pic's - we'll get them later. Looking forward to the finished model

lol, yeah, democracy rules! :)

although there are no pics I'll still keep updating since I know there are a couple of others who are building this..

I got the entire suspension/chassis done today, wheels fitted on. I had already test-assembled the suspension before priming/painting to see if any lowering was required, none was. The wheels look very good on it, no visible wheelgap, and I test-fitted some 18 inch wheels onto it as well and it looks even more striking...but I will keep the 17 inch WEDS because I like the design better.
