96 3.5L Fans not running

sitting in traffic the car overheated and check engine light came on. Had cooling system flushed and the shop said the fan modulator was bad. I think they meant relays so I replaced both the high and low speen for 9.75 each from the dealer.

The car isn't overheating, the AC is working and the check engine light is off. But the fans never seem to come on. Is this normal?

Most likely it is the RFI modulator (the small connector on the shroud) that the fans plug into. I have not found this part by itself only as part of a new shroud or fan assembly. I had the same issue on my 97 3.5 ES while ago and this fixed the problem. Most likely you will need to special order it or you can try an online parts store like rockauto.com. Be aware that this part is not cheap. Dealer wanted to sell me one for $700 (before labor) rockauto had it for $250.
