Im thinking of replacing my grand am's engine as I have been having a lot of problems. The engine has been rebuilt because of cooling problems and again i'm experiencing similar problems.
Is it possible to replace my engine with any grand am 3.4L engine? Or does it have to be only a 1999?

Welcome to Af adita1 !

Pretty sure 99-01 would work.
What kind of rebuild did your engine get before?

You just hav intake gaskets leaking and they fixed that or what?

Coolant in the oil is a problem when the LIM leaks, I know In canada thiers a class action lawsuit against GM for motors being destroyed by coolant in the oil.

4 years ago, I had to rebuild my engine because of bad gaskets causing the coolant and oil to mix. Is there any way we can get a class action going here in the US? Ever since I rebuilt mine, it's been running about 15 degrees hotter than it should and I'm worried that I'll end up wit the same problem all over again soon.

I'm not certain how to get a class action LS going, but I'm sure thier are plenty of GA owners that would get in on that.

With the new gasket design, if thats what you hav, are better then a few years back. Especially the Lower intakes  they were terrible ! :shakehead

Probly need a bunch of Ca$H and a kick A** lawyer too :D

A 3.4 engine from a buick or olds is the same I think. My daughter has a 99 bonnivile with the 3.8 and we replaced it with a buick 3.8 so Im thinking the 3.4 should be the same......

Olds 3.4l is probly the same as the Pontiac, but not the Buick.
Engines that are the same(n-body)
Alero 99-00, Cutlass 97-99, Grand am 99-00, and Malibu 97-00.

Very good info, Will try to remember that if or when our 3.4 starts to leak and it probably will sooner or later..............

I personally would rebiuld the motor before I'd replace it if at all possible.
You might end up with a used POS and be right back where you started from.
Get used engine, get a warrnty :grinyes:
