Hello
Im in the process of building my new motor and have had my pistons and rods checked by a machine shop. They informed me that they may have gotten two of the rod caps mixed up with the rods. Iv been searching and cannot find any info. Does it matter what cap goes on what rod? Why would there be a difference when there is going to be a bearing inbetween the rod and the crank? Any help would be awesome

Because whether there is a bearing in there or not, it still needs to be perfectly round. So if you mix some rod caps up that could throw off how round the rod journals really are. Causing it to be loose on one side and really tight on the other, in return would spin a bearing.

Uh-oh! Yeah man, you always want to mark that shit well. I dont know for sure, but I think the rod/rod cap are cast as a singe unit, they have the rod jounal hole bored out, then have the caps cut off. Well, they dont always get the journal hole in the exact same spot so when you change them around you end up with goofy holes. I dont know man, sounds to me like you are boned. I would just get some new ones and not risk spinning a bearing. Trust me, hearing your piston slap the head due to the lack of bearing is about enought to make you cry. It threw me into like a 4 day slump, all I did was mope in the basement and destroyed my motivation for the DSM. Dont worry though guys, now that I am away from it and have another POS to rip apart, I wish all I had to do was go work on the bitch.

If this machine shop is set up properly they should beable to put the caps on and run a dial indicator on them to see which ones match up.

Something like resizing them, but this process would be just to find out what cap is the correct one
