97 LeSabre horn, lights, locking problems

I have a 97 LeSabre that occasionally out of the blue would start honking and blinking lights. After disabling the battery for about 15 minutes it would seem to reset itself. Now the honking and blinking lights start when I try to use the lock button in the car, when I start the car and when I turn the car off. If I manually lock each door I don't have the problem. But the lights stay on permanently regardless unless I disable the battery each time I turn the car off. Any ideas of what would cause all of these things to go balistic at the same time? Thanks!

Welcome to AF.

Do you have an aftermarket or factory content alarm system installed? Which lights are blinking or staying on. Headlight, IP/dash or interior courtesy lighting?

It sounds like you may have a problem with the Body Control Module (BCM) and/or associated circuits.

I just bought the car a year ago and it doesn't have a remote, but I would assume it is a factory system. The security light comes on in the dash.

The lights that stay on are the headlights. The courtesy lights inside fade after a minute. One thing I just realized this morning is the headlight button on the door (which I've never used) apparently must have been pushed, because it will turn the lights off. But I still feel there must be something else wrong for the lock button to cause the alarm to go off. Or for opening the door to cause the alarm to go off when the key is no longer in the ignition. Perhaps the light dilema has been solved, as stated above, but the horn blowing and lights flashing still baffles me. Could it be a mall module?

The module that handles Mall (Multifunction Alarm Lock and Lighting) Programming is the BCM module so that is a possibility.

It sounds like you have a problem with the content theft system. Using the power door lock button arms the system. Unlocking the car using the key will set the system off.

The most likely faulty part would be the trunk tamper sensor mounted to the latch on the deck lid. Try unplugging the deck lid connectors and see if the light goes out and if the honking and flashing stops.
